    • Mormons in the News

Mother f! it popped up in my FB feed and didn't check the date. But it was posted by a guy in my old ward that teaches CCW classes, so he's probably always dredging up old stories to keep people good and scared. Sorry to get everyone all excited.

(For some reason, I don't remember much of this story from 5 years ago.)
I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

I didn't remember either until I read the bit about the wife breaking her arm. Not Elder Nelson, not Mozambique, not armed assailants, not the Mission President's house. It was the wife's arm that was the most memorable part of the story for me.

My understanding was that it had just happened yesterday morning, as they were driving to the conference at the Marriott Center. It happened in Pleasant Grove, I think, which doesn't surprise me.

          • Elder Nelson mentioned this story yesterday in stake conference. He really is milking it at this point.

That was nice of your wife to tell you about stake conference.

This is how rumors get started...third-fourth hand information posted by people online, next thing you know Pheid has a "well-placed" source.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

But super mean of her to force him to attend.

                  • We saw a screening of the movie the weekend before last. It is very well done. It is kind of a longform version of "I'm a Mormon." I don't know how many people will go see it in theaters, however. There is definitely going to be a push to get Mormons to take friends or encourage friends to go, to ask their local theaters to show the movie, and so forth. It'll get a lot of views on YouTube and in DVD format.

I think the inference was that it was nice of his wife to gave Triplet a brief summary of what had been discussed at stake conference.

I just hope that any member that sees this has enough sense to deduct the theater costs: tickets, large popcorn, caffeine free Diet Coke, Raisonets, etc. from their future tithing. Because the church shouldn't expect us to be willing to pay for this thing twice.

I agree that was the inference and I agree it was nice of her to summarize. But I maintain it was mean of her to force him to go, when he would have had a much more peaceful sleep at home

                        • SMR is correct. I attended against my will. Frankly, I was offended by some of the content, especially elder Clayton's talk in which he instructed us to leave all thoughts of sports and entertainment at home when we attend church. Thoughts of sports and entertainment are the very thing that help me get through church!

I don't know why, but the idea of this movie seems like something a cult would produce. "So, maybe we do dress in funny clothing and perform quasi-Masonic rituals in super secret superstructures, but we're just like you...see?" [Insert diabolica laughter]
