Funny but not surprising. A lot of Christians (certainly not all but more than a majority) don’t read the Bible. They read verses here or there. They hear the Bible preached on Sunday. But very few seem to actually understand it or really study it. I’m not saying the LDS church is the gold standard but we actually read and study it even if we have our own way of prooftexting."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yeah those comments are wild. Someone saying "Toxic empathy in action." The hell? What nice and compassionate gesture by the LDS church there and a great way to build community.Originally posted by chrisrenrut View PostThose comments! Chaff from the wheat time? It has been a long time since I read the Bible of the Book of Mormon, but I'm pretty sure Christ said "I hate those effing brown people, don't be nice to them."Originally posted by falafel View Post

The 180 days is a condition of his probation. Under an indeterminate sentencing regime, once an offender is turned over to the state prison system, they control the time he spends with them. If they let him out early, they still have control through parole. With the sentence suspended and him placed on probation, the court retains control and can impose full sentence if he violates his probation. Most courts give many chances on probation violations by resetting the time, having offenders do additional jail time as a condition, etc.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostI have no words.

I cannot imagine as a prosecutor not requiring a plea that got sex offender registration, especially for conduct like was described in the story. I think the SOR, while it may be a scarlet letter, has been instrumental at least to some degree in lowering recidivism.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman

I don't know the family but here at work they were saying the Dahle family is a prominent family in Blackfoot, father in the Stake Presidency kind of family. I wonder how much pull he had and what was said to whom to get that sentence. Also how does a young teenage boy end up alone with a girl 7 to 12 years old, where were the parents.Originally posted by Copelius View Post

Not really that interesting although john dehlin gets a short shout out."Discipleship is not a spectator sport.
