This continued insistence that the Bishop got "catastrophically bad legal advice" is not supported by the facts as judged by the Arizona Supreme Court.
Pretty sure the supreme court decision doesn't support the full exoneration you want to give (remember, the bishops claimed that the hotline told them they could not legally report the abuse, when the law allowed them to). But whatever.

    • I have siblings who were raped as children by Mormons in Arizona. So this whole issue touches a nerve. The reality is that there are no winners. Just deep, inconsolable loss.

But if the church has any sort of decency, it will find a way to at bare minimum fund the victims’ therapy with the best therapist available.

      • Ammon Bundy up to his same old tricks again:

        https://www.ksl.com/article/50639040...ff-is-in-court

A far-right activist best known for his showdowns with federal and state law enforcement officials in Oregon and Nevada is now waging a one-sided standoff of a different kind after refusing to comply with court orders in an Idaho defamation lawsuit.

The lawsuit by St. Luke's Regional Health was filed more than a year ago, accusing Ammon Bundy and his close associate Diego Rodriguez of making defamatory statements against the hospital and its employees after Rodriguez's infant grandson was temporarily removed from his family and taken to St. Luke's amid concerns for his health.

Since then, Bundy has ignored court orders related to the lawsuit, filed trespassing complaints against people hired to deliver legal paperwork, and called on scores of his followers to camp at his home for protection when he learned he might be arrested on a warrant for a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court.

"We can build a defense system from here. ... This is what is going to keep us safe from all the terrible things that are going to come upon us and throughout the world," Bundy told dozens of people gathered at his home in late April, according to a video of the speech posted to Facebook.
Lots of idiocy spewing from Bundy:

"Intimidation, defamation, doxing, trespass, threats of violence, armed 'protests' at homes and businesses and, when all else fails, armed standoffs with law enforcement — these are the weapons of choice for Ammon Bundy and his more than 60,000-member strong militia, People's Rights Network," attorneys for St. Luke's Health System wrote in a recent court filing.

Bundy, meanwhile, recently told followers that he would rather "go back to Heavenly Father" than return to jail — though contempt convictions generally carry a maximum jail sentence of five days under Idaho law.

        • This is one of those stories that you expect to see on Nancy Grace's show on HLN or something...

Summit County mom arrested for husband's murder
The Kamas mother who wrote a book with her children to help them deal with the grief over losing their father has just been arrested for his murder.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kouri Richins Monday morning for the murder of her husband Eric.

The 33-year-old charged with one first degree felony count of aggravated murder, as well as three second degree felony counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Eric Richins died of a Fentanyl overdose on March 4, 2022, according to a police search warrant.

The Richins family is one of the oldest and largest in Summit County. A notable member was Sheldon Richins, for whom Summit County’s Richins Building in Kimball Junction is named.

Kouri told sheriff’s deputies she and her husband were having a celebration together the night of March 3. She said Eric had consumed a shot of alcohol and a THC gummy.

Kouri said she went to bed in their kids’ room that night and rejoined Eric around 3 a.m. When she felt he was cold and realized he wasn’t breathing, she called 911.

                • Canadian missionary dies in Clearfield, Utah.

                  https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist...ung-elder-dies

The release is just so strange. Two missionaries are walking along, and stop to chat with young guys on electric scooters. At one point, the missionary tries to jump over a scooter, suffers a TBI and dies. The police report makes it a little clearer: "the missionary and his companion were interacting with a group of juveniles who were riding an electric scooter. At some point it was decided the missionary would jump the electric scooter as it approached him in the roadway. Subsequently, the missionary attempted to jump the scooter but fell and hit his head."

19 year old guys, man. My heart goes out to his family.

Here is the house that she may have killed her husband over...

‘The Grand Home’: Kouri Richins’ unfinished Midway mansion could have buyer

A mansion that broke ground in 2017—but was never finished—has been a longtime roadside curiosity in Midway. And now it’s at the center of a man’s death, which prosecutors allege was murder.

It’s the house Kamas Realtor Kouri Richins wanted to flip but her late husband, Eric Richins, thought was too expensive.

The 20,000-square-foot mansion sits on 8.75 acres north of state Route 113 in east Midway at 106 North Legacy Way. It’s got a 3,000-square-foot guest house too.

The property was a source of disagreement in Eric and Kouri’s marriage. The couple was under contract at the time of Eric’s death in March 2022, and according to court documents, he thought its then-$2 million price tag was too high.

I may have driven by this home a hundred times and have always wondered what its story was. It has been sitting like this for years. She is going to need the profits from flipping this house and then some for her defense fund, however.

                      • $2M seems really low for a house and lot like that. What’s the catch?
