  • Eyring said that he only saw his mother cry twice in his life.

Must have gotten that gene from his father.

(I struggle with the same thing when I give talks. Thankfully, I don't have to do that very often.)

    • Classic Oaks talk. Legalistic.

Interesting how certain GA's seem to gravitate to the same topics.

I got the gene which makes me oblivious whether my wife is talking or crying - especially while watching football.

        • I know we already had landmark of female saying prayer in conference. Is female saying opening prayer a new landmark?

It is very sad to watch the self destruction and like my co-worker I feel even worse for your families as you continue to feed each other and pickup negative behaviors from fellow posters.

What you call negative behavior might just be people looking for a safe place to express honest thoughts that they have spent their lives trying to reconcile. With all due respect, you're not the right person to prop yourself up as a spokesman for positive behavior.

The hospital was crowded and she had three different roommates throughout her stay, all with various psychiatric issues from self mutilation to intentional drug overdoses and numerous suicide attempts.

After two weeks in the hospital and receiving treatment she was released. This girl clearly had issues but they were ones that the family felt like they could solve and help her work through. Compared to the other girls at the hospital she at least had a chance.

After coming home and going through the honeymoon stage of everything being great. She had her first fight with her stepdad. She took a knife and carved "fuck you" in to her forearm. A behavior she had never done before that they later found out she learned from her roommates at the hospital.

It has been 6 months and she now sneaks out of the house and meets up with these other patients. She has started doing drugs and the self harm has only gotten worse. None of these things would have been a problem had she not gone to the hospital and worked through her issues at home.

If GBH is really a "lying shyster con man" then I would like to see the facts and judge for myself. I am not the kind of mindless person that carves "f u" in my arm because everyone else is doing it.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Based on the posts on my FB wall, this isn't that far off.

Forgt gender. When they say prayers that aren't too long, it will be a landmark.

If you're asked to give a prayer in General Conference, do you prepare it ahead of time? I'm pretty sure I'd be up the night before, working on it.

Oaks seems more and more hardline every time he speaks. His talk was a stark contrast to President Uchtdorf.

It could be, but I have yet to see a post conveying this. You don't see posts from those with Faith issues talking about how they dealt with it and what they do to move past it. You see bitching, moaning and tearing down others beliefs.

I am not propping myself up as any type of spokesman I am stating my opinion which based on numerous boardmails many others agree with me.

                          • The strength of this board is that we have a good group of people that can analyze and discuss issues that are interesting to us. We can disagree and debate on a variety of issues: Obama, Jake Heaps, Breaking Bad, LDS church, etc. These discussions are usually factually based and respectful with interesting angles on each side of the issue.

We self police. If we feel another has crossed a line we can say it without picking fights and being cruel.

My two cents. That said I'm historically not alway the model of respectful discourse so take it fwiw.

Yes, someone we know recently gave a prayer and they were told to prepare a short and a long. This person is not prone to hyperbole and was not telling to impress. He said he chuckled when told.

Like challenging IPU to a fight? Self-policing is a joke and we both know it. People get keyboard courage we are all guilty of it. I promise you Nikuman has never said any of this about GBH in real life.
