Awesome.Originally posted by Harry Tic View PostYeah, I can imagine how that conversation goes:
Anonymous News Room intern: "Um, President Packer? We were wondering if we could tweak the language of your talk just a bit before we go to press. We don't want to offend our all-important liberal constituency that always raises a stink about the PoF. I know you had explicitly argued that the PoF met the criteria to be defined as a 'revelation' but it would be easier for our office if we softened the language a bit and just called it 'inspired counsel' instead."
BKP: "Perhaps you're right. I don't want to ruffle the feathers of any feminists, intellectuals, or liberals. Go ahead and make any changes you see fit to keep them happy. And get me a Coke on your way out.""More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

Btw, which of the talks should I read other than Uchtdorf's? In light of the inspired counsel here, it seems if you inspired brethren and sisters would shorten my reading list, it would be most appreciated.Originally posted by Solon View PostAwesome."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

What with work, languages and messages boards, it tends to be limited.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostIs your time that limited?
I'd prefer to avoid the boring talks but I do know how to speed read. Which talks are highlights in your opinion, btw?"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

You're obviously using hyperbole here, but I still don't see what is wrong with having a P.R. expert review talks before they are published. Why wouldn't the Church want to avoid offending people needlessly? 1 Corinthians 8:9 comes to mind. If something may unnecessarily cause offense, why not take it out?Originally posted by Harry Tic View PostYeah, I can imagine how that conversation goes:

Bah, I didn't watch any of it. Besides, everything they said changed once it was put into print.Originally posted by Topper View PostWhat with work, languages and messages boards, it tends to be limited.

UVACoug, you may be right. The money quote: Church editors had suggested to the apostle that "referencing ‘some feminist thinkers’ would inevitably be read by many as ‘all feminist thinkers,’ " Todd explained in a statement. "Elder Christofferson agreed and has simply clarified his intent."
Two questions: (1) are you a mole from the COB?; and (2) how does one go about getting a job as a 'church editor'? That is one job in which I think I could actually make a difference in the world.
EDIT: For the record, I'm pretty sure that BKP's emendation was NOT just a helpful suggestion from an anonymous editor. But, who knows? Maybe it's the editors that really make the world go 'round after all.Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost.

I laughed when I saw that column from PFS. I wonder what her alias is here. I'm guessing she is DDD.Originally posted by Harry Tic View PostUVACoug, you may be right. See Peggy Stack: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsfa...nkers.html.csp

For the record, I think you guys make way too much out of the edits in BKP's talk a few years ago ... not that that is surprising or interesting.

How do you think the process for giving conference talks goes? You think live over the air is the first time "church editors" get any of the material?Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI laughed when I saw that column from PFS. I wonder what her alias is here. I'm guessing she is DDD.

Yeah, you should always discount a Stack column. Especially when she quotes the church spokesperson about who edited Christofferson's talk. Her agenda is just too jaded to trust anything she says.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI laughed when I saw that column from PFS. I wonder what her alias is here. I'm guessing she is DDD.

Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
