Wow, just wow. This guy in the Bishpric has to be the exception these days.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostInteresting.
Reminds me of something. I was talking to my brother last week and he said there is a couple in his neighborhood that everyone had been gently fellowshipping and trying to activate over the years. Just as they started attending church, one of the bishopric members came asked the husband's permission to extend a calling to the wife. He responded, "Why are you asking me? You should be asking her. She is an adult, she can make her own decisions." The call was then extended to the wife and she politely declined. Bishopric member returned to the husband and told him that as the head of his household, it was his duty to call his wife to repentance and convince her to accept the calling. He told the guy to bug off and they are no longer interested in church. Neighbors now want to strangle bishopric member.
There are plenty of us out there looking for an excuse not to go to church or participate that it makes me wonder if sometimes these stories aren't exaggerated a bit.

Maybe leadership is trying to better understand why people choose to leave. Maybe. I'd like to think so, anyway. I'd also like to think such understanding could lead to reforms in the church. But don't understand why they would want to meet with the entire family.Originally posted by Eddie View PostSeems like this is becoming a trend. When there is a stake conference coming up with a visiting authority, they pick some people from the stake to visit. Usually some combination of people who have wavered from attending or have some difficult circumstance they're dealing with. From what I've heard, they can be pretty low key - typically a "We love you and miss you" kind of visit. But it wouldn't surprise me to hear of some being more frank in making an invitation for someone to return.
I agree with you that it would be interesting to hear how the visit goes and what they have to say. But I can see P-diddy's point in feeling like things are going well and not wanting to shake it up.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Classic passive aggression of course. They'll talk to kids and ask if they're missing primary, mutual, scouts, etc.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostMaybe leadership is trying to better understand why people choose to leave. I'll have to go back and look. May be just a counselor. Pretty sure hes just an Area Authority Seventy. He's a parent of a friend, so him being there is not a net positive. Like I said, I'm trying to respect my friends' beliefs as they have respected my choices, so I don't want to get into a battle with anybody's hardliner dad.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostArea President? What does that mean. Isn't the Area President - at least as I understand it - generally a member of the 1st Quorum of the 70? Or is it just a lowly Area Authority? If it is the Area President, you need to accept that meeting and report back.
The request is part of the usual Stake Conference home visits, btw, or at least that's how I read the tea leaves. It's not a special meeting just for me, although obviously I'm on a list.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Probably a 70 and SP visited a family that was semi-active for some reason. The SP wishing to curry favor sent a letter months later telling the 70 the wonders his visit did for the family. He then shared it with the brethern and it became something they are all doing.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostMaybe leadership is trying to better understand why people choose to leave. I doubt it. I happen to know this guy and it is par for the course. A few years ago he announced to his family that MOTAB is the only music what would be permitted in the home. One night he discovered that his wife had slipped out to the car and was listening to some music (non-MOTAB) on the radio. So he got his tools and took the radio out of car. Really swell guy.Originally posted by byu71 View PostWow, just wow. This guy in the Bishpric has to be the exception these days.

Guys like this should not be in leadership positions. They should be in therapy."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

You should be honered Nik, they actually want you back!
If I were an Exec Sec, setting up a meeting with a GA/AA and stake prez with a family with significant concerns about historiocity... I would email both spouses. But I don't think it's a major faux paus to only email one."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. I am not saying there aren't guys like that, just not as many as one would think.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI doubt it. I happen to know this guy and it is par for the course. I will bet he is a treat to be around in other area's of his life also. He is probably seen as a pain in the butt at work and if he has kids that play sports, the coaches probably don't enjoy his company.

Agreed. I've never had the RS President ask my permission to come to our home, and I wouldn't expect it. If my EQ President wanted to visit, I wouldn't expect him to copy my wife on an email.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostI don't really see it as poor form. My wife and I never get the same emails from anyone. Family, friends, church. They email one of us, and we discuss it with the other and respond.

Either that, or they listened to my most recent podcast and want to hit me for speaking evil of the Lord's anointed. I know some people in the stake heard it because I got a message or two after that.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostYou should be honered Nik, they actually want you back!
(I think the chances that either the SP or the 70 know of the podcast at all is very small, not that I particularly care).Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
