Nope. I'm saying a religion columnist in the Salt Lake Tribune, citing no sources, is not the world's greatest source on LDS Church policy. (And yes ... I know she is LDS).

Not so fast on the stay-home-and-watch-session-in-shorts idea. It appears that the tv and internet broadcast is just a ruse to foil those pesky agitators. They don't actually want people to watch it at home. There is a letter to be read on Sunday telling everyone they need to go to the church buildings to watch.

So what was that stuff from Ruth Todd about expanding access? It is all so confusing.

I am starting to get the feeling that this has more to do with that very small percentage but very vocal ordain women group. Maybe the hope was this "expanding access" change was going to satisfy their desire to attend the priesthood session.

In any case, I am starting to feel a little sick and will most likely miss that letter that is going to be read. I wonder what it said.

This might sound strange to you, but I promise it's true - they've been broadcasting the Women's conference on TV for years. AND, they also want the women to go to the church and watch it from there. Not all of them do, but they are always asked to do so. In fact, our stake has tickets to the conference center this year. They are actually encouraging the women to go to the conference center and see it there...even though it is still going to be broadcast to the stake center AND on TV!

            I KNOW...CRAZY!

But somehow most of the women have found a way through the confusion.

Good thing it takes about 2 months for those letters to get to my ward. Seriously, the mail system between Salt Lake and here really sucks.

This should go in the "What is wrong with California" thread.

I still opt to watch from home so that I can spend more time with my wife and children. Certainly the Church would support me in that desire!

Not getting a letter that tells the members to go to the church instead of staying home and watching on tv?

Actually I think it belongs in the "what is Right with California" thread.

There is no need for such a thread, just as there is no need for "What's wrong with Texas?" thread, as both fall into the category of "Dog bites man."

That would be great to see the letter read sometime in November.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

The meaningful aspects of the LDS church for me are mostly centered around family, tradition, rites of passage, etc. The priesthood session to Baskin Robbins dash is kind of silly to an outsider, but it's a meaningful tradition to me, and I hope it's never completely displaced.
