Yeah it's bitter, but man the warm blanket it envelops me in the morning is worth it.
Nothing wrong with bitter if that's what you like. In fact, much of my conversation with this barista in Vegas centered around the fact that it seems that every barista is going for the "citrus" taste so much that it almost doesn't taste like coffee anymore. My taste has shifted back towards the bitter end a bit.

I started with hotel coffee with 3-4 hazelnut creamers in them. Tastes pretty good like that, but I imagine you lose much of the health benefit that way, and it's really not coffee. Like you say, good coffee or not, that buzz from a hot cup of coffee in the morning (or middle of the night)--really nothing like it.

I then went to a Melitta pour over, mostly because it was a $10 coffee brewing method I could carry in my backpack to work. I still think this makes a really good cup of coffee, better (and way cheaper) than the omnipresent Keurig machines. Now I have added a cold brewer (convenient because I can make a bunch of concentrated stuff ahead of time that I can either make a pseudo-latte/espresso out of, dilute to make a normal coffee, or make iced latte/coffee at work in between patients), an Aeropress (my favorite all around performer), and a French press that I've never really been happy with.

Hey I was in Brazil so I choked down Brazilian coffee because it is supposed to be good. It wasn't. When I go to Turkey I will do the same with the same likely result.

I've never tried Turkish coffee (it's a different grind and brewing method), but if that hot chocolate taste is your goal, it's about the worst kind to try.

I don't want to die without ever tasting coffee, but I also don't want to lose my position as the most pious mormon here.

She is the coffee drinker not I. However when in a country, one must try what a country is noted for, unless of course that is hashish.

Just try Postum and you can vomit in your mouth like those of us who have tried it.

Coffee totally hits the spot when it's cold and I'm really sleep deprived. I'm the guy ER is ripping on who just gets a Venti latte or mocha at Starbucks -- I pretty much know nothing about coffee except that it's against my religion and I don't like my coffee cold or when the weather is warm.

just drink it cold and you'll be fine.

I've had mixed results with my French press. I think it's dependent on the coffee you buy. If you can find a good Italian roast or kona blend, those were the best for me. Dunkin donuts brand, not so much.

You love to double down in lame jokes over and over. We saw you previous post about a cold brewer not being against the word of wisdom, no reason to go back to well again after it fell flat.

I have nothing against Starbucks at all.. I think coffee snobs who rip on Starbucks ought to think about what their coffee scene would look like had Starbucks not broken ground--a local diner with stale nasty coffee made by a cheap drip machine in the back. Truth is, Starbucks is better than what 95% of people drink every day and their blonde roast is actually pretty dang good.

I'll have to mess around with it some more. My problem is that mine is really too big for a single serving and I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. I bought it to be able to make batches at work but then I have to have the seller grind it for me when I buy it, which takes away a bunch of flavor, and I'm not ready to drop $100 on a grinder that I'm going to leave at work.
