I was incredibly poor at German until the switch went on one night while on splits with the WML and discussing Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
It's weird how that switch works. I woked up one night in Innsbruck and said outloud "$#it, I'm dreaming in German" and realized afterwards I'd said it in German. From that point on I stopped translating stuff in my head as I heard it or wanted to speak. My grammar still sucked but I no longer had problems understanding or speaking (my grammar still sucks - which is why I favor the Schwaebish dialect that my wife speaks. In Schwaebisch, like most of the regional dialects, the hard part of the grammar, the endings on adjectives and nouns, just gets dropped).

Jazz dancers going on a mission. This should be interesting.

          • The impact of the mission age change is now hitting our mission here. 5 departing Elders and 25 new ones arrived last week. More than half of which were sisters. As a result our Elders who cover a large area criss-crossing a few highways that are not bike friendly (low to no shoulders and 45 mph+ posted limits) lost their car to some sisters. They were upset. They also had to relinquish their apartment to the sisters and moved in with the Spanish Elders. Then they learned that the sisters complained of roaches and got a new apartment even though their complaints never got them anywhere when they lived in that apartment. It makes me glad I am done with the mission. I enjoyed my mission, but I never want to do it again.

Also I guess to deal with the influx of missionaries and the new missions created transfers are kind of out of whack. The last transfer was just 5 weeks. Our stake and the one north of us are getting sucked into the Richmond mission instead of DC south with the creation of the Chesapeake mission.

Awesome that this warrants an article in the newspaper. lol.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

The only thing worse than being a missionary again would be being a mission president. I don't know how they do it.
                Not that, sickos.

I've always maintained that the two callings I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy are mission president and bishop

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

I think it's worth the sacrifice for a lot of them to continue the climb of the proverbial celestial ladder. It beats being demoted to Teacher's quorum advisor after being released as SP, right?

My brother-in-law is in the Ventura mission as we speak. I wonder if he'll ever meet her.

                      • Looks like the church has bought out the entire Raintree apartment complez to house missionaries as well as half of Wy-view.

That's a significant chunk of supply. Probably a good time to own a BYU condo.

I wonder if they will have to have an exorcism at Raintree before housing missionaries there.

                            • New enrollees are 36% female. What did it used to be? My guess is in the 15% range, but I honestly don't know. I also believe this is a temporary spike in the female demographic and that the ultimate percentage will be substantially less than 36%.

My son's mp told them to expect a 60-40 split between men and women in the mission going forward, not counting seniors. He's in California, and since there are some fairly dangerous places where I doubt they would increase the number of sisters as dramatically, the 36% number is probably about as expected.
