The whole notion of a church conducting an evidentiary hearing is silly. Sorry.

First of all, why is that a dodge? Could it be that the statement is sometimes true?

Second, what makes you think that YO is one of the "people who aren't sympathetic at all"?
I was saying that I was reacting to more than what he was saying, not pointing a finger at him. If that was not clear, then my bad. I believe YO has good thoughts and intentions.

I've enjoyed your responses and I think you truly are looking for dialogue, and not just on CUF, but I take minor exception with being lumped into a group of people simply because I find the event silly. You're assuming those responding aren't in fact sympathetic when people like myself find the announcement quite self-serving but remain sympathetic to any crises of faith. I think that's an important distinction.

Fair enough. I don't mean to say anyone is being disingenuous. Maybe what I am thinking is that if you say you are sympathetic to gays but wish they wouldn't act so flamboyantly then maybe you aren't as sympathetic as you think you are. Particularly with something like this were no one is going out of there way to be offensive. Does that make sense?

By the way, do you and I interact is some other setting apart from CUF? Just trying to keep everyone in my multiple universes straight.

IANAL, but I'm pretty sure that'd land you in some questionable legal waters...
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

                      Lawyers ruin everything.

So the Church has to just stand there and try not to flinch when those two-dozen apostates kick it in the groin. Poor Church.

Objectivity is nearly impossible for anyone on the LDS spectrum so by mocking I'm discounting their catharses, I see that, and it's a fair point. I'm sympathetic but perhaps not as much as I should be.

No, I've just read your comments on other blogs. I lurk, oh yes, I lurk.

Why I don't participate is a subject for another day.

If so, what does that have to do with the first amendment and mother earth?

                            • The planned rally marks an unusually display of defiance from members of the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, known for its culture of obedience. But the restive Mormons say they mean no disrespect.
Obvious typo in the second paragraph.

That said, I think people missed the point, which was an obtuse way of making fun of those who use tragic events and crazy rhetoric to talk about their pet projects which, at most, are only tangentially related. Whether we are talking about global warming alarmists who use every fire to justify their cause, or their counterparts who point to a heavy local snowfall and ask, "What global warming?," or Wright using the tragedy of 9/11 to comment on foreign policy, or Pat Robertson blaming earthquakes in CA on the gay rights movement... it is all part of the same crazy. I was, in a total non sequitur, making fun of those people.
