It is good to know they leave it up to us.
To be clear, I wasn't defending the new policy, I was just reminding folks of it for the sake of discussion.

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

What's tacky? The products they sell or advertisements?

Isn't that kind of the point?

I don't know, is it? Last time I saw the place I was surprised by how white trash everything in there looked.

What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

There you go. In all its glory.

Wearing garments is a "sacred privilege" and garments are a "protection against temptation and evil" (what evil?). "It is expected that members will wear the garment both night and day [by whom?, why?] according to covenants made in the temple." But we never make a covenant in the temple to wear garments, we are instructed and that is it.

Don't alter the garment to fit under clothes "even when such clothing may be generally accepted." By whom? In what nation or culture?

Don't take off the garment "to work in the yard or for other activities that can reasonable be done with the garment worn properly beneath the clothing." What is reasonable here? I could reasonably run in the morning in sweats and a t-shirt with my garments on, must I do so really?

But then "Members who have and covenants in the temple should be guided by the Holy Spirit to answer for themselves personal questions about wearing the garment." Great. I'll follow the Holy Spirit, the Church can stay out of it.
I have always been told that I shouldn't wear my garments swimming so I always do yard work in my swim suit in case:

                (1) I overheat in the Texas sun and need to quickly cool off by jumping in the pool before I pass out.

                (2) In case I step into a fire ant mound and need to drown the little bastards swarming my body by quickly jumping into the pool.

As for accommodating for different styles of clothing that is a tough one... I am pretty dang tempted.

Fwiw, I couldn't care less. I look at "accusations" of mormons belonging to a cult in a similar manner. While the term carries a negative connotation to some, if the alleged cult teaches goodness/Christlike actions, then who gives a shit if we're a cult?
I really don't like seeing the word cult, I don't think it is descriptive or helpful. There is a good podcast about this issue here:

                  http://mormonexpression.com/2012/05/...ode-201-cults/

One of the panelists, interestingly given your point above SMR, says "of course it is, and they are proud of it." The problem, in large measure, is that no one agrees on what that word means.

As you well know, you have second amendment rights - the right to bare arms. Larry just needs to also sport a swim suit - it's 100 degress in Texas right now. And, no, I don't wear my G's when doing yardwork in the Texas heat. Instead of a pool, I have a hose nearby to cool down.

Aren't garments much worse for women than for men?

The getup the women have to wear, especially if they are wearing the G's under the bra, just seems so much stranger on a woman than what the men wear.

Another example of sexism in the Church.
