However, I got a serious scolding from my mom and SIL who also have scolded me before about letting my garments touch the floor.

I got roundly mocked for even suggesting that I keep my garments off the floor. FWIW, I recently discovered it's counsel in the Handbook.

The garment is sacred and should be treated with respect at all times. Garments should be kept off the floor.
