  • The Bigots’ Last Hurrah

Op-Ed piece in the NY Times yesterday:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/op...=1&ref=opinion

(For those too lazy to click on the links provided in the column, the "son of one of the 12 apostles in the Mormon church hierarchy" is Holland's son, the new president of Utah Valley U).

Good thing LDS people donated all those millions to get Prop 8 passed.

Temporarily delaying gay marriage in California for a couple of years was the best possible use for those funds.

You're right, people doing what they feel is right regardless the cost is silly. After all we certainly wouldn't want that kind of attitude creeping into the American subconscious. You might end up with health coverage for every American etc.

Oh, wait, sorry. People are only permitted to do what they feel is right as long as it is what you have told them is right.

I agree with the author. What a boring issue. I would assume the hard right wants it to go away completely. With every new state that passes this law or similar civil union legislation, it makes the anti arguments seem more ridiculous and the homophobia harder and harder to deny.

I don't know, maybe one of these days we will wake up and find out that all those horrible things that were predicted actually came true. My kids are starting kindergarten next year. I hope they don't catch the gay at school.

When will the NY Times do an op-ed piece on why it's wrong to bash Mormons?

I sure hope they don't catch the gay at school. And heaven forbid they are encouraged to vote their conscience and are endlessly ridiculed for doing so regardless of whether or not you or I or the New York Times agree with them. That would be so democratic process like. Man, what a terrible thing.

Poeple should be bashed for unattractive beliefs. No one gets a free pass from criticism for believing ugly stuff, even if they call it religion. Unlike being gay, it's a choice.

So it's ok to bash you.

This issue will always bring you out of the woodwork.

Don't ask for the right to do per your conscience absent accountability. That's not how it works.

                      I think you are confused.

I have no problem with your right to vote and donate to whatever cause you see fit. But I do think it is a silly cause.

Your response seems to exemplify the point that the author is trying to make. This anti-gay political movement is dead on a stick. You have no credible legal or logical argument to make, so you have resorted to paranoid posts about not being able to vote your conscience. You also make silly remarks about the absence of democracy when in reality, this entire issue has been the result of a democratic process...judges making decisions, people voting, legislature in action, court decisions both in favor and against.

It is ironic that someone who supports anti-gay legislation would be sensitive about being ridiculed.

I think you are out of fresh ideas, amigo. Maybe you should dredge up that old pamphlet that talks about heterosexual divorce rates in Norway as a result of gay marriage.

For anyone who wishes ill to the LDS church Prop. 8 was a godsend. The two now will always be associates with one another, like Vietnam and Robert Strange McNamara.

The only idea I am espousing is democracy. I have no idea where you are going with your little rant. Maybe it's you who is uncomfortable with the ridicule.
