Three of my fellow zone leaders were former drug dealers, and two of my fellow APs had live-in relationships before their missions. Not only are those types often firm believers afterward, they also often make better teachers.

Absolutely. I didn't mean to imply that it is a bad thing.

Thank you. Now please convince my mother.

What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Your mother is likely more worried about your feet (and rightfully so!)

I don't think she even knows I have been going barefoot. We rarely talk. But she is a firm believer in a good pair of sturdy shoes.

That's probably for the best. Lots of people leave the faith of their fathers. But they still wear shoes. Combine the two and she would really worry about your sanity.

Two for three isn't too bad.

And at the time, I was the Priest Quorum President, and my dad was first counselor. I was the one that was supposed to stick.

The Church needs to understand that both the HC double standard for BYU athletes and the low bar for missionaries led to some great years of football and religious growth.

It seems like folks in the scriptures like Paul, Alma the younger, and the sons of Mosiah made pretty good missionaries as well.

So unless one has been sexually active with several partners, then the bar is still low enough. How is this different from before? The one-year waiting period?
                              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

In my day, you could have gone "all the way" the week before you reported to the MTC, repented to Branch President Hunter, maybe have to visit with the MTC President and that was about it. I think half of the purpose of the MTC was to guilt you into confessions.
