                            I agree! One verse= a whole hymn. However, I always crack myself up by miming the Bruce R. McConkie spoken word to myself during the last verse...

                                BTW, no one better mess with We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet. Not that it's my favorite, but my only Mormon claim to fame is that the writer, William Fowler was my GGG Grandfather.

                                    It's not supposed to be that long. 100 counts per verse (25 measures) taken at the recommended tempo of 100 counts/minute is only 1 minute per verse (fancy math, I know).

                                    People tend to take it (along with a lot of other hymns) at often only half of the recommended tempo so yeah that makes it 8 minutes long for all 4 verses instead of 4 minutes.

                                            That is one of my pet peeves--slowing down all they hymn tempos. As if singing faster is somehow a sin, lol. Reverence can be had with a faster tempo!

                                                        Our organist always plays at about 5% faster than the fastest tempo suggested. I love it.
