Talks are pre-translated before General Conference. The FP and Q12 are the only ones allowed to ad-lib from the prepared talks. In this case, if the speaker chooses to go Spanish, it would get pre-translated into English and then pre-translated into Armenian, or vice-versa. Thus, during the live-broadcast in different languages, the translation does not happen completely on-the-fly. The translator is live-broadcasting it from a prepared script.

Yes, it used to be done on-the-fly back in the old days so no need for people throw out anecdotes about how some dude from their mission was invited to do the translation on temple square during conference and <insert faith promoting story here...>

I didn't know this. Makes this thing much easier. Chances are the Q12 and FP will continue in English but it still would be awesome to hear Uchtdorf go off in German.

Um, we all know HF speaks English.

Not so sure about this. It's not clear that his occasional utterance of the English phrase, "This is my Beloved Son. Hear Him" tells us much about His competence in the English language. That sort of utterance--where you immediately designate another to speak in your stead--is often a sign of linguistic deficiency, kind of like when the Hispanic parent immediately asks their bilingual kid to speak for them at the parent-teacher conference. At any rate, I'd like to see a larger speech sample.

The evidence is also somewhat ambiguous on His listening comprehension skills in English.

The news media also used to get copies of the talks before they were given. That may not have extended to FP and Q12 talks. (It's been a few years since I had a close family member in the Utah news media. So this may not be true anymore.)
