I have always been a big fan of the ever loving, sun tannin', hearth throbbin', Dieter U.

But he had better watch his back because that British GA that spoke in Priesthood is kinda hot and very charming. I will be watching him with great interest. And the ladies are gonna swoon, bank on it.

I just looked up that British GA's profile and he's not even 50 years old. Uchtdorf is in trouble, he's turning 70 next month. I think Uchtdorf is the Arvydas Sabonis of heart throbbin' GAs, if only we could all have seen him back in 1990.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Plus the british guy is hanging out at the beach wearing flip flops, smashing scorpions, and rebelling against his parents' advice. Chicks dig rebellious guys that arent afraid to smash a few scorpions.

The British guy spoke at our stake reorg a couple of months ago. His talk then was even better and more heartfelt than the one in PH session IMO. His wife also spoke and she knocked it out of the park too. They have two daughters in primary-that's how young he is.

Interesting was that Elder Nelson also attended our stake reorg and they were back to back speakers in PH session. At our stake meeting they seemed to have a really good rapport with one another. Is it common for one of the 12 to take a seventy under their wing like a jr./sr. companion sort of thing?

I love President Uchdorf, but I was disappointed. Why oh why does he have to bust out a pride talk, with specific reference to sports rivalry animosity, after a benchmark BYU loss. He must hate the Utes.

I caught it too. When he spoke about the Devil, he had this look that was a bit scary.. Almost like hatred...

Secured himself a spot in the ultimate general conference batting order. I see him as one of the ultimate table setters, someone who bats early in the order, is extremely consistent, makes everyone around him better.

I'd raise my hand in favor of assigning "emeritus" status to those not capable of performing their duties in the 12. That would speed things along for ya.

Maybe that's why there are 15 of them.

Both of his talks today were outstanding but I thought he really knocked it out of the park with his talk on pride in the priesthood session. Excellent topic, brilliantly worded, and delivered with just the right tone. I especially like that he avoids the dramatic pauses and the sing/song intonation. Rather than beating the guilt-inducing drum of obey-obey-obey, he inspires and motivates. I like his style.
I love going to church in Brazil. More lively and more liberal. In fact, there was a "worker's day" (May Day) fireside where a member who happens to be a reasonably prominent socialist discussed how to be a good worker.

Uchtdorf is German which means he's likely much more "open minded"...

Lively, I'm all in for. Worker's Day fireside? I'll pass.

Given Dieters age chance it could happen. Jeff is ahead of him and could outlive him. I think Hal is next oldest ahead of Dieter.

I want Jeff Lebowski for Prophet. I think he has the credentials. Right now. I look forward to an exciting new era of Glasnost.

I like the Glasnost comparison. The Soviet Communist Party/Government and the LDS Church obviously had a lot of structural similarities. It is astonishing that somebody like Gorbachev was able to make it to the top of that structure and then capable of dismantling it. It took years of total outward commitment to Soviet-style communism for Gorbachev to rise to the top of the organization and that length of time and depth of commitment should have made the Soviet Union immune from being undermined from within. It sure works in the LDS Church to make sure people who would make significant changes rarely rise to the top.

I had several people in Ukraine tell me that a Fast and Testimony Meeting was very reminiscent of a Communist Party Meeting. That everybody took turns getting up and saying how great socialism was and how they were committed to the ideals of socialism/communism.
