        • So, I was released just now, and the first counselor, after the "vote of thanks," said, and i quote, "brother Williams it pains me to do that, but the lord calls who he calls.". That was a first for me from the stand.

Very cool that he gave you a shout out from the pulpit. He obviously knows how much you liked your calling.

Are you sure he wasn't referring to the new calling.

My wife didn't like it. I thought it was nice. The youth were upset. One kid said that if I wasn't the teacher he wasn't coming back to church, and he got in his car and left. A couple of parents who've never said two words to me thanked me for being a "young and hip" teacher who related well to the kids--asking if I can do firesides from time to time. While I'm neither young nor hip, I did relate well to them because I was honest. If they asked me what I thought about something, I told them, at an appropriate level, what I really felt. I also didn't tolerate canned answers. We all got through the Pauline Epistles tedium together, and I was glad that my last lesson was James. pelagius asked the question somewhere if we were a "Jamesian" church, and I thank heavens that we're not a Pauline church.

Yes, I'm sure. They don't have anyone to take my place, so the bishopric's going to teach it through the end of the year and beyond until they feel there's someone right for the job.

                  • I learned that we have 12 billion people on the planet now and the reason we have a population explosion is because all anybody wants to talk about now is sex, sex, sex.

This old guy says stuff like this so much that we all just nod and let him ramble. At least this one made me chuckle.

"I have participated in over 40 baby blessings in my lifetime. By show of hands, lets see if anyone here has participated in more"

But how many people in the room participated in three on the same day?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Ha, I didn't think of that! I haven't done anywhere near 40 baby blessings, though.

                          • Our SP spoke today...

He covered the Salamander Letter and Mark Hoffman.

Many members of the Church left when they found out GBH bought the documents and put them in the Church Archives. But without him being "inspired" to buy those documents...the FBI would never have been able to crack the case.

Too many members of the Church were weak.

                            Then...

It is like today with Prop. 8. Members of the Church are weak and leaving because they don't have the faith to stand with the Lord.

He just wishes these people could be patient to find out why...

                            _____________________

It was a doozy of a meeting. Sparking lots of discussions by about 75 people who have never heard of either the Salamander Letters or Mark Hoffman. I have a feeling this talk will have done more harm than good.

                              • I snapped a couple quick pics of the Lost & Found at our chapel today:

It's a bit blurry, but "The Pause" is subtitled "Positive Approaches to Menopause".

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock
