There was a girl in our ward who was named "elizabeth" (who I had taught in Primary, and lived on the same street) and she was driving from Portland to Provo for her Sophomore year. She hitched a ride from a kid in our stake named "jordan" and they loaded up their things and took off. Just on the Idaho side of the Utah border jordan fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the road, hit a ditch, flipped the vehicle several times. Jordan died at the scene and elizabeth was life-flighted to University Medical.
The mother (single/divorced) flew to SLC to be with her daughter, and was told that elizabeth had only a 10% chance of surviving the accident. The mother upon the news just sat there and sobbed in the hallway, and just at that moment President Monson walked by, saw her sobbing and stopped to comfort her. She quickly told the story about the kids going back to BYU and the accident, and President Monson said to her, "Just a moment" He stood there for a moment, looking away from her, shook his head, and said. "Jordan has importuned The Lord and Elizabeth will be just fine, so don't you worry about a thing." The mother when telling the story to President Monson did not mention jordan's or elizabeth's names.
The mother recanted the story to us in our house, and used the word "importuned." In the October Conference a few weeks later President Monson used the word "importune" in his conference remarks. I personally believe the Apostles have a thinner veil than we are even aware.
For what its worth.
