So if I'm wearing a t-shirt i go mesh top. If I'm not then i go cotton scoop neck.

Dude, scoop necks, otherwise known as the "eternal smile', are totally lame and old-man-ish. Nothing creeps me out more than seeing some old geezer with a visible scoop neck under his shirt that sags down to his belly button. The crew neck is the way to go!

Of course, you must keep the crew necks clean and swap them out for new ones when they get yellow or ragedy. I don't like seeing raggedy yellow/brown crew necks poking out of shirts.

Edit: USU and Donut are nuts. Crew necks for the win!

Go back and re-read the last few posts. Then try again.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

      • I misspoke on my last question about crew necks. Of course they make crew neck garments. That's what I've been wearing for 19 years. What I meant to ask is if they make v-neck garments. I agree that the idea of switching to scoop necks creeps me out since the older, larger bellied generation seem to have cornered that market. The v neck seems like a nice in between. But does it exist?

They don't make garment tops for contestants on The Bachelorette, but I don't think I would buy them if they did.

I have both scoop and crew neck. I'll admit that I walk around the house with only my garment top on (and shorts and bottoms on too of course), and I like having a crew neck on -- I feel like I'm 55 years old if I'm wearing the scoop neck around the house. The scoop neck is definitely more comfortable and cooler, and I need to try out the mesh top.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I am of the "crew neck for white dress shirts, scoop otherwise" club, and I agree that walking around with only a scoop top on makes me feel like my grandpa.

I think your association with scoop necks and old men come from plenty of old men who wear cotton scoop neck tops that are stretched out beyond recognition. And they don't care if the shirt they are wearing is transparent and shows all to the world. The mesh tops don't get stretched out and crazy looking.

In response to Dwight's question about v-necks is, no they don't have v-necks. But I think the mesh scoop will get you close to what you want.

              • I have so much chest hair that the scoop neck makes it look like I have tuxedo shirt on under my guayabera.

You just need to get in touch with your inner Magnum PI and roll with it.

I don't wear Gs anymore and it is a relief to be able to exclusively wear v neck undershirts when wearing dress shirts.

                    • No v-necks? For shame. I know they've developed a bit of a douchey reputation. But I figured that was just for those that wore them on the outside. I figured it would solve the revelatory factor of the crew neck while protecting against the potential nip slip of the scoop.

V-necks are the way to go but I don't think they make a G v-neck. V-neck t shirts are not douchey. People are douchey.

the scoop is your only option.

Re-read completed. You like crew under white shirts and scoop for everything else. You can rock that eternal smile all you want, Grandpa. The rest of us young, stylish, and hip folks will continue to go with crew necks.

lol. Now go grab some Girbaud shorts and be sure to rock those Birks with socks. If your short sleeves aren't at least past your elbows, you're not winning.

I own a v-neck cotton garment top. I don't know if they still make them. The sleeves seem to be longer than the regular crew neck.
