Is there a finer LDS hymn than "Redeemer of Israel?"

As part of preparing my will several years ago, I also made some notes on my preferences for my funeral. Singing all the verses of "Redeemer of Israel" was included.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostOnce the speakers in our ward left a lot of time at the end of the meeting (15minutes) so we decided just for fun to ask the congregation to sing all the verses - I think there are 7. Everyone loved it and we still got out 10 minutes early.

A few spattered thoughts on posts in this thread, I always think "vain repetitions" anytime "If You Could Hie to Kolob" is being sung. (I can't sing it myself anymore.)
DDD, if you want another hymn written by a relative to comment on: "Come, Listen to a Prophet's Voice" Do, what you will...
"Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing": Love it, but I'm on board that it's done a lot of late. "Take Time to Be Holy" is a non-LDS hymnal hymn I look forward to hearing arrangements of now instead.
I've seen a few gems in the hymnal that aren't sung frequently. "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" for one. (Maybe just most of the wards I've been in don't sing this.) I'll have to look at a hymn book tonight to remember some others I really like.

What is that hymn that the Tab Choir sang at the end of the GBH funeral. Maybe it was the emotion of the moment, but that is a beautiful hymn and quite possibly my favorite tab choir performance of all time."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Sorry, can't help you here. I actually enjoy "Come, Listen to a Prophet's Voice."Originally posted by beelzebabette View PostDDD, if you want another hymn written by a relative to comment on: "Come, Listen to a Prophet's Voice" Do, what you will...
I also love If You Could Hie to Kolob. I love the melody. It is a strange song to try to sing in parts, but for whatever reason I have always enjoyed it. It is fun to watch investigators run for the exits midway through that tune.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

This song is best sung as a tribue to early 1990's grunge rock complete with the Eddie Vedder back-of-the-throat vocals. Trust me.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI also love If You Could Hie to Kolob. I love the melody. To me it is such a fine example of Mormonia. Totally unique, never sung in sacrament meeting in my experience.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI also love If You Could Hie to Kolob. "This Earth Was Once A Garden Place" is another (good ol W.W. Phelps again, I think). I think it is actually prettier then "Kolob."“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Ther is another one in the french hymnal whose name I cant recall but thr music was by Mozart (it is called somethign like "somethign somethign ici bas") and the qauebecpois LOVED that song. It is in the key of Eb and the chorus has a runing left hand in eigth notes with unison voices with quarters adn rests (very mozarty; instantly recognizeable as his) This song used ot be in the english hymnal as well, until the great hymnal massacre of ther late 70s when they went tot he green hymnals in english. (I still prefer the keys and arragnements to many of hte songs from the old books)PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I wish I could hear this one more often. I also like "Beautiful Zion, Built Above."

Well, with that really great hint ""somethign somethign ici bas" I'll go with "Though in the Outward Church Below." It had an excellent bass line, and sounded especially fine in German. I, too, was bummed when it got the hook with the Great Hymn Reformation of 1985, but "Each Cooing Dove" got tossed as well, so there were certain compensations.Originally posted by creekster View PostTher is another one in the french hymnal whose name I cant recall but thr music was by Mozart (it is called somethign like "somethign somethign ici bas") and the qauebecpois LOVED that song. For similar reasons, whenever I am singing the hymn, "Have I done Any God in the World Today?" when we get to the chorus I lapse into the Spanish version. "Alertos, haced algo mas, que siempre sonar de mansion . . . ."Originally posted by Space GhostI served in the small town of 淡水 (in Taiwan) for 6 months. The Branch President there insisted that "真理反映" be the closing song for each and every Sacrament meeting. The BP was a funny dude (funny, like maybe just a wee bit off mentally)... and was the only Melchezidek priesthood holder in the town (aside from the missionaries), so no one really called him on it (probably no one cared to). Anyway, those 6 months of singing "Truth Reflects Upon Our Senses" (in Mandarin) every week forever seared the chorus in my memory:
神聖救主,您必領導,直到我等達彼岸,那裡有天使在等待永遠同聲讚頌您。
I can't sing the chorus of this song in English... it's hardwired into my brain now, even 20 years later.
cheers.
