Is there a finer LDS hymn than "Redeemer of Israel?"

I am listening to the Mack Wilberg arrangement right now and I don't think so. Others may be as good, but none is better.

I love that hymn. I got to perform that arrangement in Men's Chorus at BYU with Mack conducting -- it was awesome.

Once the speakers in our ward left a lot of time at the end of the meeting (15minutes) so we decided just for fun to ask the congregation to sing all the verses - I think there are 7. Everyone loved it and we still got out 10 minutes early.

There are some hymns that just need all the verses covered, especially A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief.

My branch president in New Orleans had a strict policy: every verse to every hymn every time. If we were running short on time, he'd switch hymns to "As I Have Loved You."

His reasoning was, "The hymns are like stories, and if you don't sing all the verses, you're not finishing the story."

I love him.

did he have the same policy re: reading one verse and not stopping until you finished the entire volume of scripture? because..you know...those stories are like....stories.

Our previous ward music director (whatever you call it) decided that it would be fun to explore the less well-known hymns. Every week it was something entirely new. We quickly discovered that most of those hymns never caught on for a reason. I appreciate a good traditional hymn now.

our current does this. wish she wouldn't. as you say, there is a reason these tunes are not popular.

Although a nod to one of my faves that is not common in sac meeting: Come all ye sons of god that have received the priesthood.

The ultimate rad song that seemed to peak in the 80s and has since disappeared from our weekly lexicon: In Our Lovely Deseret. Where has that tune, gone? Joltin' Joe has left and gone away!

We need more songs that contain the word "meat."
