  • I was heartened by this comment: At one time BYU wanted to become a Harvard of the West. Now it wants to become the Berkley [sic] campus of the Rocky Mountains. I have forwarded it to the the PAC-12 with the expectation they'll boot Colorado and admit the more liberal institution, BYU. Can't wait.

And I'm pleased that the artist can no longer "in good conscious" show his art there. Seriously, how could an artist in good conscience show that anywhere, except perhaps on the home page of The Onion?

I guess the constitution and paintings of the constitution are hanging by a thread.

Time to ride off on my white horse.

PS - is it really "censorship" to decide not to sell something? I have to assume this is a business decision at its root.

I must admit I never knew the source of your avatar until I saw that painting, but I recognized it immediately and had to explain to passers-by why I burst out laughing. It means even more to me now that I have passed my cursor over your part and have seen you described. The "smug expression" just gives you away immediately. I found the "lawyer" figure significant also....

it's censorship insofar as ipu claims fox canceling brother beck is censorship, i.e. it's not.

Didn't they take down the painting in the BYU bookstore and THEN he pulled his stuff? This isn't quite at the level of Rodin, but in some ways it's censorship...in fact it might be the best kind of censorship

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. • I found this modestly humorous and of little social value, which are generally highly correlated in nature:

This just made my week. I can't believe this exists. I started another thread about it on "Critics Corner" not knowing this was here - we can use that one to focus more on the artistic merits of the work.

                  • I will ask the same question I asked in Ox's thread in case it doesn't get seen there.

Why did they stop selling it in the bookstore. Do they not only protect the students against bad words and visuals, but also bad art?

So you expect it to be a very short thread?
