a.k.a. the Bucket-O-Fries. I don't mind the flavor of Del Taco's fries, but the texture blows. Not enough (any?) crisp on the exterior.

I don't mind the texture. They remind me of the fries you would get from the cafeteria in high school. The ones that were cooked on a cookie sheet. They go well with your hot ham and cheese.

When I was growing up, we'd only get to go out to eat fast food a few times a year. My Dad's favorite place was BK since it had the 99 cent Whopper. Usually the conversation went something like this:

Dad: "Guess what kids, today we're going to go out to eat!"
Kids: "Yay! Where we going?"
Dad: "Burger King"
We drive to Burger King
At the drive thru:
Dad: "Hi, we'll have 6 whoppers, one without mayo" (I was allergic to mayo)
Kids: "Can we get sprite?"
Dad: "And 6 waters"

It is a Chinese tradition to never order soft drinks at a fast food drive in.

I usually only try and patronize Subway. Their current $5 footlong promo is a good deal since I can make it last for two meals. $2.50 a meal isn't bad. Anyway, when I was last there, there was a sign in front of the register that explained when you do or don't get charged tax. Google shows this started in January.

So in California, the only time you will not get charged tax is if you order a cold sandwich, to go. Eating a cold sandwich inside is taxed. Ordering a hot sandwich to go is taxed. Eating a hot sandwich inside is taxed. Can you believe warming up the sandwich for 30 seconds costs another 44 cents?

Fast food prices have got up significantly in the last 10 years. That MickeyD Filet O'Fish is costing you 111% more.

How far did your fast-food buck go 10 years ago? One citizen journalist has figured out that answer by analyzing his collection of drive-thru fast-food menus. What did he found out? Some chains have increased the price of their menu items by more than 100 percent.


According to Rob Cockerham, the blogger behind Cockeyed.com, in 2002 a McDonald's Big Mac cost a mere $2.39. Today that same sandwich will set you back $4.19, an increase of 75 percent. Even more surprising was that a McD's Filet O'Fish sandwich saw an increase of 111 percent, up from $1.89 in 2002 to $3.99 today. What's wrong with this picture? Cockeyed.com checked the Consumer Pricing Index's Inflation Calculator, which determined that consumers could expect a price increase, over this same time period, of 28 percent. But none of the menus documented in the blog post followed that trajectory.

No freaking doubt. My daughter wanted curly fries a few weeks back. We ended up at Arbys for dinner. I had a beef n cheddar. I can't remember the last time I ate something and then felt so awful within a few minutes. Mrs. D felt the exact same way. We promised each other that we will never eat there again.

Jamocha shakes and curly fries. But everything else they have is horrible, I agree. Last time I ate a big beef and cheddar (said in my best Isabella Rossellini voice) I was sick as a dog.

I do love Jamocha shakes. Hell, i started a thread dedicated to them. But I may have to avoid them on principle.

I haven't eaten there in...I can't even remember how long. My guilty trash food is Taco Bell anyway (McDonald's occasionally).

I am not a foodie and will eat just about anything if I'm hungry.

I don't know why, but I really like big macs. Something about the special sauce - no idea what. I just like it.

I have a couple of kids who only eat chicken nuggets. We were never extremely loyal to one joint over another - until the kids figured out that Wendy's kids meals also come with a little cup of ice cream. Then all they wanted was Wendy's. But they make good enough burgers that I was OK with that.

I've never been to Taco Bell or Taco Time enough to know what is worth getting there. Not sure if that is good or bad.
