I haven't made a cookie recipe from this thread that hasn't been good.
I have. But I attribute that to me, not the recipe. I need to try it again to be certain.
On a semi-related note, I love gingersnaps; they are probably my favorite cookie. However, I haven't made the famous recipe in this thread because I love my mom's recipe so much. I legitimately don't believe that the recipe could be as good as my mom's recipe, let alone demonstrably better, but I suppose I should try it to be sure. At least that way I can prove that I'm not avoiding the recipe because I think it might be better. I guess that's my "A bible, a bible, we have a bible" non-contribution to this thread.

Bring it on.

We have made the gingersnap recipe from this thread twice. They are amazing. My wife said she wanted to make them tonight, but I told her not to because I don't feel like eating 34 cookies later today. I have no self control with those cookies.
I tried an America's Test Kitchen chocolate chip cookie recipe with the kids this weekend. I used a cookbook (cook-magazine?) we have, but it looks like the recipe is copied here:
I used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. The cookies had a bit of a crunch around the edges without being hard or brittle, and the centers were chewy but not mushy or bready/cakey. Here's a quick cell-phone pic:

EDIT: These taste fantastic. I was sure to keep the dough balls small, and I baked them for ten minutes in a non-convection oven with a one-minute sit on the sheet afterwards before moving to the cooling rack.
The first dozen ginger snaps are out of the oven and cooling:
They smell great.

Those look perfect. Way to go.

I forgot to post this, but seeing this thread bumped reminded me. I went home and looked at the recipe after this and compared it to JL's. The recipes are virtually identical, with two exceptions:
1) my mom's recipe includes 1/2 tsp nutmeg
2) JL's recipe uses butter and shortening, while my mom's recipe uses all shortening--half plain shortening and half butter flavor shortening.

I need to make all the chocolate chip cookies in this thread. I had a go-to for a long time, but I haven't been feeling it lately. Maybe I'll find one I really like. One thing is for sure, I won't be going half butter/half margarine like LA Ute once suggested.
When I do make a chocolate chip cookie these days, I end up making the oatmeal one someone posted - chrisenrut? - but I take Surfah's mom's method of grinding the oats first. Those are super tasty cookies.
