Egg Nog.....Yuletide Plasma

I love Egg Nog. I love the holiday season because I have greater access to egg nog.

I love egg nog ice cream, egg nog smoothies, egg nog cakes, and most of all....egg nog beverages. Iced, warm, whatever (although I prefer cold).

I have never had spiked nog, although I am told it is delish. I have also never had egg nog with coffee or latte or whatever...I am also told they are tasty.

A few things I don't like re: egg nog

1. Whipped cream (I love whipped cream, just not with my nog)
2. "flavored" egg nogs (pumpkin, candy cane, mint, etc). I'm a traditionalist
3. Too much spice. I want to taste the creaminess of the nog. I don't want to feel like I am sucking on a cinnamon stick or a bunch of ground nutmeg.

Every year I check out new brands of nog and taste test. I have had some delish homemade egg nog, but I have also had really bad homemade egg nog. If anyone has any tried and true recipes for homemade, I would love to see them.

My fave comes from a local dairy called Broguiere's...located in Montebello. There is always a line of cars for the drive-through and all their milk stuff is amazing....super thick and creamy chocolate milk, amazing egg nog, delish regular milk. The nog comes in an old school glass deposit bottle and only sold on certain grocery stores. This nog was featured on Huell Howser's California Gold series as one of the state's best. It doesn't disappoint. If any of you are in the area and have the inclination, I recommend checking out a bottle. Look for the cow!





What brands do you enjoy drinking? I have tried many of the standard stuff...cream o weber, alta dena (not bad, actually), etc. None compare to Broguiere's, imo, but I still enjoy them.

Some people actually hate egg nog. These people are known as Santa-hating communists. They are obviously free to not enjoy drinking this magical elixir, but that doesn't mean that they are not evil.

My favorite thing about the holiday season is the access to egg nog. I am the only one that like the nog in my family. I haven't had much success this year to any good egg nog. I am sure that if I made a trip to the Omish Country that I could find some good stuff. My favorite from the store is the Jack Daniels egg nog (non-alcoholic). I have never had the spiked nog, but I am sure that it is delish. I tried something called Pumpkin Spike milk this year. Not a big fan. Bring on the good ol' fashion egg nog w/ a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg. Yummy.

I love egg nog. My mom always chided me for not diluting with milk, but I didn't care. I still don't dilute. Bring it strong, I say.

I love egg nog. The thick stuff, you can almost stand a spoon up in. The thicker the better. Broguieres is the best. I used to drink it every christmas season when I lived in San Fernando Valley. I miss it. They also make great chocolate milk.

Thick egg nog also gives me an excuse to bust out my Waterford crystal lowball glasses. I know, there's no reason for a Mo to own lowball glasses. Chill the egg nog till very cold. Pour three fingers into a lowball glass. Don't get any eggnog on the side of the glass. Cradle glass in hand. Contemplate the thick creamy goodness of the egg nog. Sniff. Slowly swirl the eggnog around the glass. Don't allow the eggnog to climb up the side of the glass. Until you're ready to drink the eggnog, the sides of the lowball should be clear and dry.
