Are any of you FPS enthusiasts making a temp switch to Battlefield 3? Or is that already underway?

I think the consensus here is that BF3 sucks. Or something like that. So we're waiting a week.

We discussed it briefly a few pages back, I think the consensus is that 1337coug likes it and everyone else doesn't. Most of us downloaded the beta and weren't persuaded. I can appreciate that it is probably more realistic, but I just didn't like the feel of it. I fully admit that could be overcome with a little bit of time, but I like the COD games just fine and shouldn't really spend any more time than I do playing.

It is interesting to watch the marketing battle between B3 and MW3, there are billboards all over SF (and I'm sure the whole country) trying to hype each one up. Even B3's slogan or whatever, "Above and beyond the call" is an obvious jab.

I wonder if this is a Coke/Pepsi thing. People stay loyal to their brand? They are both amazing looking titles.

I remember playing COD2 faithfully and then I think it was the first Ghost Recon that came out. We all bought it the first day. Within a couple of days we were back to COD. You love what you know, I guess.

I think that's probably right. I didn't hate BF3, but I like MW2 (a title that is now fully two years old) better.

My brother has been playing it. He likes the single player campaign, but hates multiplayer. I believe he traded it in or sold it already.

I got my first hate mail on Saturday. The kid said that the only reason I did so well was because I had the best connection and that he could shoot me for a full minute before I noticed and killed him. He told me that I should never, under any circumstance, think that I'm any good. I told him that his game would probably improve if he'd quit camping in the same spot over and over.

On a somewhat related note, I am happy to see the COD aspect of the MW franchise quietly shifting to the background. I always felt that MW should be its own brand but I guess it needed the COD name to get off the ground. We can look forward to a return to the WW2 arena for future COD releases. I always preferred that, anyway. It takes the game back to its roots and allows for fans of the modern weaponry to still be able to play MW.

That's something that a lot of studios don't get. There is a reason why there is still a market for older games with inferior graphics: gameplay is king. No amount of realism can make up for substandard gameplay. Or, in the case of BF3 and MW3, personal taste in gameplay. The differences between graphics will make you say wow for a moment but then you forget about it if you want to survive.

This is the real difference between BLOPs and MW2. BLOPs has inferior graphics, but that's not what makes it generally inferior. The gameplay is far less enjoyable, IMO, and that's why I went back to the older game.

Saint, I have had my fair share of hate mail. I have never understood the mentality of people who send those. I have a personal policy now of deleting all messages, sight unseen, unless they are from somebody I know.

I don't get it either, but it was funny. I guess he was just mad that his camping wasn't working at all, and I kept killing him repeatedly.

I traded it in for store credit. It's a $30 trade plus 30% plus extra 10% if your a GameStop pro member. I put the credit towards my MW3 reserve.

A minor quibble, but a lot of these games are primarily a social experience for many players, which is a pretty good reason to play the newest one. I never liked BLOPS over MW2, but everyone switched, and so did I.
