    "Favorite Movies" I didn't like

    After the shock of learning that there are people in this world who have never seen Vacation, Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Caddyshack wore off I started thinking about movies everyone seems to like but me. I realize there is a 50% chance this list will get me booted from CUF and a 100% chance I will be mercilessly mocked.

    * Big Lebowski- Sorry JL, I had heard how funny it was for years then when I finally saw it, I thought it was funny but nothing special. I only saw the edited for TV version so I'm sure the original was likely funnier though much more vulgar. Much like Anchorman (see below) I have chosen not to rewatch this movie even though there is a very good chance I would like it more with each viewing.
    * Annie Hall- I like a lot of Woody Allen stuff, but for everyone who claims this the funniest movie ever I say go back to Soho and keep pretending Any Warhol's Campbell Soup can was awe-inspiring art.
    * When Harry Met Sally- Was the orchiectomy painful?
    * Austin Powers- Mike Myers needs to stick to large green animated creatures.
    *Anchorman- I have never seen it. It started out as just forgetting to rent the DVD; but over time it has turned into my badge of courage, much like American Idol. I enjoy the incredulous responses and hearing a person say "you have never seen Anchorman, you have to see it.

    As far as a movie I love even though it is universally agreed to be an incredibly stupid and poorly acted piece of crap is Weird Science. I have no idea how Bill Paxton (Chet) didn't win and Academy Award for his performance. Though finding out Lisa now weighs 300 pounds definitely makes the rewatchability less enjoyable

    Most of the movies on your list....whatever.

    Not liking Annie Hall is unforgivable. I am not sure it is the funniest movie of all time, though. Actually, I am quite sure that it is not. But there are very few movies, if any, that do neurosis better.

        A real badge of honor is not having seen Titanic. It came out during my mission and I've somehow avoided the film every since.

        I've never thought Caddyshack was as funny as everyone says. I like the Baby Ruth scene and Chevy Chase's talks with the caddy are pretty funny, but otherwise I don't see the big deal. Fletch seems to stand the test of time a lot better.

        Speaking of standing the test of time, I watched half of Slap Shot last night for the first time and that movie is still pretty solid. It's lol funny a few times.

        Anchorman is an extremely forgetable movie. Jack Black punting Baxter the dog off the bridge is pretty funny but I can't think of too much else. Talladega Nights was significantly better.

          Anything with Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller. They're not funny.

            First off, Adam Sandler is funny in Punch Drunk Love. I also thought Anger Management was pretty solid.

            I agree that Ben Stiller isn't funny, but the Meet the Parents movies were funny and it wasn't particulary because of Ben Stiller. DeNiro was great in those movies.

            But the most unfunny guy who's in funny movies is Seth Rogan. That guy blows.

                No Joke. Anchorman is in my top 5 comedies of all time. I highly recommend doing a way with the badge of courage.

                  Get the excoriation broom ready

                  For a chick, I like a lot of guy things. But one area of guy stuff I dont like are sports movies. Especially where the climax of the movie is some sporting event where our hero pulls out the win at the end. I find them extremely banal.

                  So I can't stand Hoosiers, Rudy, Varsity Blues, Miracle on Ice, Chariots of Fire, Remember the Titans, etc.

                  We Are Marshall has a special place in the pantheon of movies I hate that everyone else likes, because it intersects a banal sports movie with a movie starring Matthew McConaughey. :::shudder:::

                  However, I do like Field of Dreams, The Natural, Jerry McGuire. Cause they dont have that climactic game at the end.

                        I hated 40 year old Virgin. I know I am probably in the minority on this one. There were only 2 or 3 parts that made me laugh.

                          I'm sure there are a few movies out there that I've seen and didn't like that others really liked, but I can't think of any.

                          The older I get, the more of a cinematic curmudgeon I am, so it would be easier for me to list movies I've not seen that I know I would hate.

                          I finally saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. My wife has hounded me for a long time to watch it.

                            I'm going to have to go with these two movies:

                            A Beautiful Mind

                            Million Dollar Baby

                            I didn't like either of them and they were both oscar nominated (if I recall correctly) and were popular movies.
