What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Movies that were highly regarded that I do not care for:
In the Bedroom
The Remains of the Day
The Joy Luck Club
Ulee's Gold
An Officer and a Gentleman
Out of Africa
The Accidental Tourist
Michael
Phenomenon
I really liked Remains of the Day a lot, though I haven't seen it in probably over 10 years. Maybe I wouldn't like it as much now, but at the time I thought it was a tremendously moving movie, with a terrific acting job by Anthony Hopkins; my favorite of his. It is amazing what a powerful performance he gave with a real understated style.
I don't have any disagreements with the rest. The Accidental Tourist is one of my favorite books. I liked the movie, but do not think it was a classic.
beg your pardon? Highly regarded by whom? I am not sure there exists a travolta movie post SNF that is even mediumly regarded.
What about Pulp Fiction? I personally am not a huge fan of the film, but I do know it's very highly regarded.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Pulp Fiction is amazing, but I wish I could erase most of it from my memory.

The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon
