I got tix to the regular old theatre w the nice reclining seats since the IMAX online ticketing system is apparently a shit fest right now. I liked that ginormous screen for the last one, but my tix were general admission and they herded us in there like cattle. I like nostalgia, I don't miss the old 'musical chairs' days.

I skipped the tickets and went straight for the t-shirt:

            • In an age where most Star Wars directors can't keep their job, Kathleen Kennedy/Disney apparently are such big fans of Rian Johnson that they gave him his own trilogy.

It's perfectly capable of being enjoyed. But it's just not up to snuff with the originals. Heck, even the prequels had their charm.

You just have to accept that there's no going back.

You'll all be happy to know that my opinion will probably be a minority opinion. I didn't like force awakens that much either.

                      • The rottentomatoes ratio between critics scores and audience score is looking kind of bad.

                        Critics -- 93%

                        Audience -- 64%

A few other examples I glanced at:

                        Ghostbusters 2016 critics -- 75%, audience 52%
                        Revenge of the Sith -- 79%, 65%
                        Force Awakens -- 93%, 89%
                        Thor Ragnarok -- 92%, 88%
                        Justice League -- 40%, 80%
                        Batman v Superman -- 27%, 63%

Judging by that Ghostbusters movie, a steaming pile of shit can get 50%.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Generally, I think IMDB is more accurate to my taste than RT. The critics vs audience that you show here kind of validates that. I haven't seen all those, but it looks like the audience ranking is more in line with my taste than the critics in those exmaples.

New Star Wars is sitting 8.1 IMDB right now. Considering mostly super fans are voting so far, and as I recall Force Awakens was north of 9 its first couple days, I'm downgrading my expectations on this one. Bummer.

I enjoyed it. Better than The Force Awakens. They are going in a very different direction, which upsets the nostalgia that many people have. But, it will allow for the story to develop without being constrained by the previous movies.

I will trust the critics on this. Fanboy nerds get all bent out of shape over stupid shit like whether it was appropriate for Darth guy to have a silver stormtrooperish suit.
