I thought it was excellent. If you like the musical, I would be surprised if you don't like the movie. And if you don't like the musical, I doubt you'll like/appreciate the movie.

                    I'll be seeing it again.

You may be surprised. This is not "South Pacific" or any musical you've probably ever seen.

We saw it at noon today. My kids (10/13) have never seen the musical. My 10 y/o daughter did not care for it. It is a little mature for her. However, the 13 y/o said it wasn't as bad as he thought it was going to be, which translates into he liked it. I thought it was excellent!

I've been scarred. I have 4 older sisters (no brothers) and was subjected to many a musical movie night (all types: Phantom, sound of music, south pacific, les mis, etc.). I never got to pick. It's stuck with me. I hate musicals.

Siefried and Crowe are the weak links, as expected, but they made a few changes to Javert's numbers which render them mostly passable. Jackman was mostly good, though a few of the higher pitches seemed strained. Hathaway was remarkable. A number of others were quite good.
