I watched SNL's best of Amy Pohler a few nights ago, and it was so unfunny, i deleted the 'Parks and Recreation' timer from my DVR, as well as the three episodes I had stored up. Almost embarassing how unfunny her funniest moments on SNL were.

I am actually enjoying Parks and Rec more. Last night's episode was pretty funny (the lesbian haircut). The writers seem to be developing the other characters and making them more integral to the plot. More importantly, less dialogue for Amy Pohler, more for everyone else.
The show has some interesting characters....Aziz "peacocking" at the bar with that orange Kangaroo hat....I thought that was really funny.
clip of Aziz helping Amy Pohler write her speech
Watch Parks and Recreation, a hilarious sitcom about the day-to-day activities of the Parks and Recreation Department and it's Deputy Director Leslie Knope. Stream full episodes of Parks and Rec, watch trailers, clips and more, exclusively on Peacock. Start streaming today!
Did anyone else watch the Office? Was that the worst episode ever of the Office? It was horrible. What kind of pitch meeting was that?
"Let's hear your ideas."
"Why don't we have Michael start a dance club down in the old janitor's closet? We can take an entire episode to flesh it out. At the end, we can have the whole cast doing the YMCA."
"Sounds good, let's go with that."Last edited by TripletDaddy; 05-08-2009, 08:02 AM.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

On a side note Southland is continuing to pique my interest.*Banned*

The biggest problem with The Office is that too many characters are so over the top as to make the show completely unbelievable (and at times completely unbearable). If Michael Scott was a little crazier in his comments during his "confessionals", but a little more subdued overall with sporadic outbursts of lunacy, it would be a lot more effective. Same goes with Dwight.
They need more Jim pranks on Dwight and Andy.

I haven't watched this week's Southland. We have it on TiVo.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI agree on the Office which sucks because I thought last weeks episode was very funny.

I am enjoying it thus far. I think it is raw and as a local, I really enjoy shows that are not only based in LA, but are unabashedly LA. This show has that....references to actual eateries, locations, streets, neighborhoods...it is fun to watch.
I am not sure what happened last week (not last night).....the main guy (dude from The OC) and his partner weren't even in the episode. The result was a forced hodgepodge of smaller stories that are not entirely compelling.
I enjoy the straightforward crime plotlines.
I don't mind the side plots, as long as they are interesting. How many more episodes are we going to have endure watching that one cop fight with his crazy wife about the fate of their dog? Have the writers made us care about him enough to want to know about his dog and his wife?
Also, the main woman.....they can't have her rescuing kids and prostitutes every week. She is already in danger of becoming one dimensional. I have noticed that all her main storylines have her running solo. They should try to expand her character a bit by having her interact in greater depth with some of the other main characters...esp her partner.
This show has potential and it is still finding its legs. But when they try to go off in too many directions at once, the show usually falls apart.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The original strength of The Office was that it was satire on actual office events. Go back to beginning. Pretty much every episode was something that could happen in your own office...diversity/sexual harassment training, inter-office sporting competition, risk of downsizing, concerns over health care coverage, people wearing dumb costumes to work on Halloween, stuff like that.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostThe biggest problem with The Office is that too many characters are so over the top as to make the show completely unbelievable (and at times completely unbearable). Jump forward to recent episodes.....the boss turns the janitor's closet into a dance club, Dwight intentionally stages a fake fire drill to terrify everyone, Michael and Dwight go to the other branch and destroy a copy machine and use silly string while wearing fake mustaches.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

These are the kinds of events that would happen in a television series called The Mission. Hmmm... someone should seriously make that show. The Mission would be a blatant rip-off of The Office (doc. style, crew follows around missionaries, watches their practical jokes, rips in the pants, p-day activities, testimony meetings, weight gain, meals with members, debating anti's, etc etc. The settings for comedy are endless, and the material would practically write itself. Hell, it could even find a wider national audience on cable). It would be like a mix of Reno 911 and The Office. I'm not saying it would be a great show, but I'd bet it would be successful. Maybe we could do this show as a sort of CUF project. That might be fun.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostJump forward to recent episodes.....the boss turns the janitor's closet into a dance club, Dwight intentionally stages a fake fire drill to terrify everyone, Michael and Dwight go to the other branch and destroy a copy machine and use silly string while wearing fake mustaches.

However, if I had to venture a quick guess.....this show seems to feature Chevy Chase. Which means that it will probably go off the air prematurely.
PS I drop you this note, not in my Church position, but as a personal friend. Only Jeff Zucker can speak for NBC.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I've watched the 2nd season of this show on the ole informationPod, and I've enjoyed it. It feels like it's the same people that made "The Office", but I like Amy Poehler, and I love that Louis CK got to play an extended guest role. And of course, Aziz Ansari is great.
