Exactly what I was thinking. I hate when movies on blu-ray lose that cinematic sheen and look like a daytime soap opera because of the high definition.

Yes, I know. I've had to do it on my parents' TV and others.

And that's exactly what people have said this look like. I read an article where the writer said he had been on sets that in real-life didn't look as much likes sets as they appear in The Hobbit.

May just take some adjustment, but the initial reaction was not positive.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

That's exactly the problem. It's also the reason why I never bought into the 120Hz/240HZ nonsense, it looks terrible when you "clean up the picture." I think it takes away from the viewer's depth perception of the picture.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Can you easily change the settings so a 120Hz HDTV only shows at 60Hz?

I don't know, I don't have 120HZ TV. The last TV I bought was at Thanksgiving 2008 and 120HZ was still a somewhat expensive feature. I made the conscious decision to save a few hundred dollars and buy something I thought looked better anyway. Supposedly 120HZ TVs are marginally better with sports viewing, but it gets to the point of diminishing returns with HD. SD to HD -- HUGE, 60Hz vs. 120 Hz -- not a big deal.

And some new Hobbity pictures that look very consistent with the LOTR movies

FWIW, I really enjoyed the Hobbit trailer that came before Brave. I can already tell this is a homerun.

I got the Hobbit trailer when we went to Brave and I will agree that it looks good, and very consistent with the LOTR movies. The difference between the Hobbit and LOTR books does not seem to show up in the movies, if the trailer is an indication.

I sure missed the point of Triplet D's post badly. I'll have to learn to control my excitement of Hobbits next time.

I probably won't watch this all the way through, just like I haven't watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies all the way through. Unfortunately, it has been fairly impossible to avoid the movies entirely.
