It's not a 4 star movie, 3 stars IMO. It's not up to the level of Ironman 1, Spider Man 2 and the two Nolan Batman movies, but it's right underneath those movies. Thor is an important Marvel comic book character so they couldn't screw this one up like they did, say, Ghost Rider. Thor's potentially another franchise and he's going to be in The Avengers. I really liked it. I can't think of very much I didn't like about it, other than some of the plot resolution. Better than Ironman 2, probably not better than Spiderman 1 (Was spiderman 2 any good? Spider Man 2 was the best Spider Man movie. 1 was pretty good, 3 was pretty mediocre. Spider Man 2 is the one with Doctor Octopus. Strangely enough they're rebooting the SPider Man franchise next year after only about five years since Spider Man 3. Also, Sony owns the movie rights so Spider Man will continue to fall outside the sphere of the Marvel Studios self-produced movies that are tying everything together. It was not as good as the most recent Batman movies or Iron Man.
I think it was as good as Iron Man 2.
It was easier for me to get into the Batman and Iron Man movies because, the way they were depicted, you could actually conceive of a real batman or iron man existing.
Thor is so "out there" in terms of origins. Same with Super Man. Harder for me to get into.
I thought Spider Man sucked. #2 was awful. So, I might not be a great reference for how those stack up.
At the very least, it was a very entertaining movie. Very well done. I'm not a comic book guy, so I can't speak to how "true" it is, but it was entertaining and well made. Natalie Portman melts the screen in a very non-Megan-Fox way. It was a good ride. I saw it with my 6 year old. He liked it, wasn't scared. There was a bit of language but no gore and no sex. I'll probably take my 8 year old and see it again.
I'd give it 3 stars. For me, 4 needs to be an Oscar nominee (or should be on that level).

I enjoyed Thor quite a bit. I like the big gamble that Marvel took in trying to build a cinematic universe with interweaving stories and characters. It seems to be paying off so far. I was thoroughly surprised that Thor was as good as it was. I was of the opinion that it would be pretty much impossible to get an audience to buy into the whole concept but they did a great job jumping between Earth and Asgard and walking a fine line between Lee/Kirby melodrama and lighthearted adventure. Just like the best Thor comics.
