Is it even possible to properly adapt Roald Dahl? I'd say the Witches came the closest, but James and the Giant Peach/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sucked. Willie Wonka was good, but not really a proper adaptation, either."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

I don't know if it's possible. But if it is, Wes Anderson is definitely not the person to do it. (Nor was Tim Burton, as you point out.)Originally posted by Commando View Post

Yeah I like Tim Burton movies and I like Wes Anderson movies, but I think in this case I'm looking for a Roald Dahl movie. Is there a competent filmmaker that could lose their ego in the text and faithfully convey the spirit of the novel or story? Maybe, but none that a studio or production company would green light. Catch 22 situation, I guess.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

If you have never seen Whiplash, you should watch it while it is streaming on Netflix. One of my all-time favorites. Enjoyed it just as much on my second viewing. In particular, I love the ending and how they leave the central questions of the movie unanswered. And the state farm dude makes an amazing villian."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Not sure I'll watch it again as it's very raw and discomfiting (not necessariiy a bad thing) and J.K. Simmons is, as usual, outstanding. I'll watch pretty much anything he's in, including commercials, e.g., Thank You for Smoking and Up in the Air.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIf you have never seen Whiplash, you should watch it while it is streaming on Netflix. Blue Eye Samurai was good. Lots of recognizable voices means they spent a lot of money.
