The "did you know this streams on Netflix?" thread
Finished ‘The Crown’. Acting: excellent. Dialogue: excellent. Cinematography: excellent. A couple of slow and less interesting episodes, but I really enjoyed it. I told Mrs. NWC that it’s basically a soap opera, but it’s so interesting because of the history involved. I was wikipediaing facts after most of the episodes, and most of it stayed pretty true to history. What an insanely consequential time period for the world.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I started watching The I-Land and there is a weird misanthropic tension and strange arcs of character to it. And then I saw it was written and directed by Neil LaButte. Of course. Who peed in his cheerios his entire formative life?
I just watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time. I thought I should check out the 1974 original for its historical properties if nothing else, and was expecting the crappiest grindhouse b-movie ever. Actually... not bad!
They don't really do the 'torture porn' thing that is so popular now, no jump scares, no gratuitous nudity, not crazy gory, and pretty solid dialogue. Just a good creepy little romp.

I remember watching this when it originally came out at a drive-in theater and being completely mesmerized.

Which drive in? I saw it at the Ute drive-in on state street right next to the train viaduct on state street. I don’t think it’s there now.
Most likely the Pioneer Drive-In in South Provo or the Art City Drive-In down the road in Springville.

I assumed it had all of those negatives when it came out while I was an undergrad, but Charles Metten, then the head of BYU's theater department and for whom I was briefly a research assistant, said it was a VERY good movie with a variety of surprising strengths. He was right.
The second season of The Kominsky Method is now available and, based on the first two episodes, I think it's even better than the first. Many nice one-liners but also some insightful and touching bits about friendship, old age, and loss. There are some interesting and surprising guest stars, one of which appears with the introduction of Michael Douglas's salty ex-wife in the second episode. She's working somewhere in a jungle--whom would you cast as Michael Douglas's combative female counterpart from 30+ years ago?
