On the contrary. The entire series was turning into a sappy 100%-predictable snooze fest. Shaking things up will be good.

    • After it happened I read that the latest event went down because the actor in question didn't like what his character was being given to do and wanted out. So this isn't the result of the writers shaking things up. No guarantee the result will be positive.

Shakes it up either way. No guarantee it will be negative either.

        • We'll be seeing more of the actress that played Sybil. She's really hot and she'll do just fine.

As for the actor that played Matthew Crawley...well, he went full Shelly Long with wanting off the show. Stupid move.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'm not going to lie, there is a part of me that hopes he has career arc like Shelly. I watched a great documentary not long ago called That Guy...Who Was In That Thing. It followed 16 actors who everyone would immediately recognize but you'd be hard pressed to identify them by name. It was interesting to hear their struggles and successes. Any of these guys would kill to have been a lead on show like Downton, and to walk away from that? Dan Stevens has some cojones.

                • Sybil had a small role in the British show Misfits. She made quite a sinister antagonist.

Some of those "That Guys" are really great actors. They either don't have the good looks or sinister looks to headline movies.

This guy is the ultimate "that guy" --

The other thing to consider is that people make fun of these actors that take either these bit roles in countless movies and TV shows, or the actors that are in Lifetime movies, but these people still make bank. Some guy like Dean Cain easily pulls down a few million a year.

Mary and Matthew bug me. Always have. I won't miss him at all.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Matthew was a perfectly good person until Mary turned him to the dark side.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
