    Spoiler for Spoiler answer:

    Already I have questions:

At the end of episode 2 we see Cobel looking at Mark's condo while he is helping Petey rest for the night. Does she really have a severed existence, or is she spying on Mark?

She does not appear to be severed based on later clues, but I don't want to give too much away.

I'm curious what theories have come to your mind as to why many un-severed people on the outside seem so childlike. It makes complete sense to me that the severed workers could be simple, but it appears that something has happened in the outside world as well. The "intellectuals" at the non-food dinner (how funny was that?) were so basic. On the outside, Mark and his sister seem twice as bright as everyone else. There's a dystopian feel to everything, inside and out, that I just love and it's sprinkled with a hint of dread that becomes more tangible with each episode. This really is the water cooler show that everyone should be talking about.

    Spoiler for thoughts:
Apart from the non-food dinner, I haven't noticed too many un-severed people. Well, if Cobel is un-severed then she also seems a little 'simple'. I'll have to focus on that going forward. Agree that Mark and the sister seem to stand out, but also the new employee (I can't remember her name) understands something's amiss almost immediately. Maybe everyone is like that immediately post-severing, but then they realize resistance is futile?

I'm interested in learning Petey's story, especially after that weird shower scene.

Started episode 1 last night. I wish they had used shorter hallways.

Ha. There’s a reason for that.

              5 episodes into Severance:
              Spoiler for thoughts so far:
Yeah, there is a definite dystopian feel outside of Lumon. Like you say, almost all the characters have something just off going on. Ricken's book with Jack Handey-esque advice, the birthing cabins, and the dialogue. And inside Lumon with the Perpetuity Room. I wonder how deliberate this is. Like I could see a plot line that society has become so dystopian that people would choose severance to deal with everything in the world, not just personal anguish like Mark. I kind of get a 'Children of Men' vibe.

The whole rivalry with Optics and Design is interesting, not sure what's going to happen with that. Love Christopher Walken in this, his subdued acting in his old age is excellent here. And the room with the goats?!? I have no idea where that's going.

I'll be up to date after this weekend.

                Something I noticed:

                Spoiler for :
Did anyone notice the difference in Marke's watches. They are identical other than the watch he wears as an Outie has a red star. Maybe it's all a communist plot.

                  Spoiler for reply:
I did notice the red star but didn't even think about the commie angle. Intrigued, I googled mark's watches and came across a watch website that talks about it. Apparently it doesn't have any deeper connection than a prop keeper's preference. The 'innie' watch does, though:

As it turns out, the Vostok Komandirskie 341307 was from the personal kit of prop master Catherine Miller (who also did the watches in Uncut Gems). Russian watches are common in prop kits because they're so cheap and their design is so varied, so that made sense for the outtie. For the innie, she needed something with no dial text, not even numbers – because the innie workers are not permitted to pass messages to the outside world or their outtie selves; a text detector is set up in the elevator which triggers an alarm that spells doom for whoever is caught breaking protocol. "In our mind," Miller says, the characters "go to a store that's like a uniform store and there's three watches to choose from."

                    Spoiler for Severance:

Huge hints coming in 6 and 7. Then we’ll have a lot to talk about. I don’t want to spoil anything for you.

Walken is fantastic, agreed, and I was thinking about how perfectly cast this thing is. Everyone is solid. Everyone gets scene stealing time. Really the best show I’ve seen in a while.

                    • CODA wins best picture!

Now I feel vindicated for hyping it so much.

                          • The best thing about Severance are the villains. Patricia Arquette has had quite the career arc. Succession and Severance are the best things on TV by far.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                              Mr. Milchick is fantastic.

                              Spoiler for Episode 7 spoler:

The Music Dance Experience in Episode 7 was incredible television. Almost a Pulp Fiction vibe.

                              • Holy shit.

                                Spoiler for spoilers:
I figured out there was going to be a reveal on Mark's wife a few seconds into the taping the pieces of the picture together scene. I wondered if it would be Helly, but Ms. Casey was a complete surprise. And after the Overtime Contingency, which was a trip, we're seeing something really sinister with Lumon. I wonder how the potential severance connection with the senator's wife's birthing is going to play out.

Agree that the music dance experience was done perfectly. Milchick was fantastic in it.
