Ted was a fundamentally unhappy person that nobody realized was dangerously so. Anthoney Bourdain with a whistle. One of the brilliant aspects of the show for me was how it normalized accepting help for men when it comes to mental health. Talking to a professional, having a group of friends to run problems by and check in with, and having a chosen group of friends to call family. Super happy, funny Ted was fake. The subdued Ted of Season 3 was a man who was addressing his problems head on and was better for it. Same goes for almost every character. Sometimes the work isn't as entertaining as recognizing the problems which is what the first two seasons were about. I think that's essentially why some people found the tone of the show so different in the final season.
    I think you’re right.

      • I finally got to really like a show about soccer but now I'm expected to believe these two are supermodels? Bridge too far.

            • Finished S3 of Ted Lasso. Overall I'm happy with it. Glad that Nate got some redemption. I think it got too distracted with some dumb side plots (like the sermonizing about online privacy) and Keely's relationship with Jack. Love Trent's hair but he kind of had a lot of air time for a minor character, though his mentoring part with Colin was nice. I really liked the scene where Rebecca spoke out against the super league with other owners, because it made Rupert look suprisingly very sympathetic. But then he ruined any good will and then some, which seemed cartoonish. And they played around Ted's ex-wife's partner as a complete bore as if there was a possibility that they would get back together, but nothing came of it.

So the plot wasn't tight at all and got distracted in many episodes, but that really doesn't matter in Lasso. It's a character driven series, and most of them had some really good moments. And it didn't jump the shark with another season. So two thumbs up for me.

              • The new Silos series on AppleTV+ is fantastic. Based on the Silo book trilogy. Mostly true to the books (first one in this case), but when they do deviate I actually like the series better.

I know some of you read the trilogy when it came out. But either way, you won't be disappointed.

In case you didn't read the trilogy, it is a sci-fi post-apocalyptic story where everyone is living in a giant underground silo following some kind of unnamed disaster. Very unique and engaging plot.

Not at all. In fact, being super low tech is one of the most interesting parts of the story line.

Spoiler: A Pez dispenser makes an appearance.

                    • I read the first few books. I thought it was a cool concept and enjoyed a lot about them, but stopped after a while. Things never seemed to really move forward. Maybe I quit too early. I'll have to give the series a try.

                      • Loved the fist season of Foundation. It’s been so long since I read the Asimov books that I can’t remember how true to them the series is. My lack of memory of the specifics in the books is likely enhancing my enjoyment. Given that the books span thousands of years I was worried how they would handle it in the series and so far so good. I am on to season 2.

                        • The Pigeon Tunnel is on Apple TV+ (and in theaters I believe). It's an Errol Morris documentary about David Cornwell, better known as the author John le Carre. Highly recommend.

                          • If you are not watching The Morning Show you should start ASAP. Every season is good, but Season 3 is amazing. S3E9 is one of the best episodes of any series I have watched.

I just finished the very satisfying season finale. And I completely agree about season 3 being by far the best of the series. Couldn't wait for each episode to drop.

                              • Masters of the Air just premiered today, the third Band of Brothers series from Spielberg and Tom Hanks. It looks great so far.

I think in another ten years we need a series about the Navy in the Pacific.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
