2. The unmistakable tones of Ben Gibbard. He’s acoustic on this one. Almost sounds like a cover, but I’ve never heard the song before. It has quickly become a fave, though. This song fits my voice well. I’ve already learned it on the guitar.

I'll Follow You Into the Dark? If so, great song. One of the few Death Cab songs that I really love. Though I think you'd probably recognize that one so I could be off.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Nope, I know that one. This one has an almost old-time country feel to it. About traveling cross country.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI'll Follow You Into the Dark? If so, great song. I cannot tell a lie! Believe it or not, though, there was a theme to this. Surgical Removal refers to the grueling, therapeutic, or otherwise subconscious or unintentional release of habits, phobias, and assorted psychosis through one form or another... all of which can leave scars but ultimately leaves you lighter for better or for worse.
This is Our Scenery by Gauntlet Hair, an outfit from Denver. I love this crap. It sounds therapeutic to me and sets the tone.Originally posted by falafel View PostI was going to post my review tonight independent of Commando's demand, but now no one is going to believe me. Oh well, here it goes.
Track 1: No idea who this is. It sounds sort of like its been recorded in a concert hall b/c it has that high echo sound. At first that bugged me, but now I really like the song. Good intro.
This is a new track from The Suburbs... it talks about pleasing others and living up to expectations where you can't really win, but you do what you know and do what you can. The pace is frantic and feels nice.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 2: Arcade Fire. I would guess this song is called "Month of May," but I'm not sure. I first thought this was an Arcade Fire rip-off band b/c I didn't recongnize the song and I thought I had all of their stuff. But there's no doubt this is them, so I guess I don't have it all. Great song, sort of a retro feel to it. 2 for 2 so far.
This song is bat-shit crazy and it's awesome. Just like this band. Their SNL appearance was hilarious. The guitar player w/ long hair kept hamming it up for the camera-- it was great.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 3: MGMT. I don't know the name of the song, although I have this disc. I only listened to the album once before I decided it was a big let down from their first one, so I didn't immediately recognize this song. Now I like this song quite a bit, although its still far below most of their first disc. This song is unique in that it goes through something like 4 or 5 transformations before its over. Interesting. 3 for 3.
Boomin' Granny-- Beastie Boys. Making fun of and defying sexual mores, norms and expectations in the mid-90's. This is a b-side that I love and adore. I leave this as an offering that I don't take myself too seriously. And my favorite quote..Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 4: Beastie Boys, I think. I would guess this is call Boomin' Grannies. Funny/gross song. I don't have very many BB discs, and I certainly don't have this one. It must be very old. Best line: "Because I saw you at the check out line. You dropped your coupons, and you were looking fine." 4 for 4.
Sophisticated, and so mature/ I couldn't really care if you're 60 or 74/because I wantcha/ and I need ya/ hey Boomin' Granny you could be my teacher/ and I could be your pet/ bet/ listen old lady I'ma make you sweat!/You know I'm younger/ and you're much older/ you look so nice in my Chevy Nova/ I'ma take ya to the low rider show/ and flaunt ya/ I gotta tell ya, lady/ that I wantcha/ Boomin Granny.
YES-- This is Sun Hands by Local Natives. They're a great newer band whose album is awesome pretty much the whole way through! Glad you liked it.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 5: No idea who this is, but I really like this song. Cool guitar work and vocals. I would listen to more of this band. My favorite part is where is where the singer switches from the smooth tone of his voice and starts yelling. Then the guitar breaks in. Sweet. 5 for 5. This can't last forever though.
This is Can't Stick Em by Bear Hands. Great little group I caught at Kilby who seem to have a future.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 6: Another great track. No idea who it is. Very simple guitar riff. Grease in the p-p-p-pan! Second favorite song so far. 6 for 6.
Sometimes- My Bloody Valentine. Love this song. Maybe with time it will grow on you? A more dour, emotional contribution to the theme, but perfect.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 7: I first thought this track was a Smashing Pumpkins song. I have come to understand that this is a My Bloody Valentine song, and now its obvious that its not Billy Corgan singing. Regardless, this is the first "miss" for me. Its not a bad song, but I just can't get into it. The distortion is too great and there's not enough going on in the song to keep my interest, I guess. 6 for 7.
Cold War by The Morning Benders.. I love this track. And Ice Cream Pies.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 8: Back on track. I feel like this could be Vampire Weekend, but I could be way off. The voice sounds very similar to me, although I don't hear any steel drums. Anyway, good song, but much too short. I would like another minute of it. I think he says "I want a nice clean fight" in the chorus, but its also possible that its "I want an ice cream pie." 7 for 8. I really like this song.
Survivalism- NIN. This was the wild card of the bunch and I was not sure how it would be received. Glad it stuck!Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 9: Trent Resnor, or maybe NIN. At least I think it is. Nice tecno-ish song. I can't make out hardly any of the words, except "mother nature is a whore." 8 for 9.
Ha ha ha.. I forgot about this one-- it's called Kill the DJ by Peeping Tom featuring Massive Attack. It's a side project of Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), so it's gonna be out there, but I love him in about every incarnation.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 10: No idea who this is, but it sort of reminds me of Garbage. Although if I were guessing, I would probably guess Portishead. This songs feels like it should be part of a the sound track for later 90s b-movie about hackers. Not a bad song, but not one of my faves. I'll give it a miss. 8 for 10.
Sax Man-- Lonely Island (feat. Jack Black). I think this has literally over 100 plays on my itunes. Love it.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 11: Jack Black on vocals, although I've come to learn its a song by Andy Samberg's little group. This song has me constantly cracking up. "F&%kin' play something sax man!" lol 9 for 11.
Tiny Cities Made of Ashes-- MM. I have loved this song for as long as it's been out and has never gotten very old to me. A perfect song.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 12: Modest Mouse, although I don't know the song. I generally like most Modest Mouse songs, even the ones that are a little off, including this one. I dig this song. 10 for 12.
The Thing-- The Pixies. Ha. This is a b-side to Bossanova and actually an abbreviated version of The Happening. Your wish is granted! Just look up The Happening for an extended version. I was driving doing my thing on the shores of Great Salt Lake...Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 13: The Pixies. Great Salt Lake? Not sure of the track, but its obviously the Pixies. Another good song that I wish were longer. No real chorus though. Interesting pick for the mix. 11 for 13.
Cannibal Queen- Miniature Tigers. Another favorite I've seen at Kilby/Velour. This band is siiiick. I threw you their most accessible track. Great stuff.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 14: Another song that I really enjoy. Top 3 or 4 for me. No idea who it is though, but I'm thinking its called Cannibal Queen. I like songs that I can sing/whistle throughout the day. This song works great for both. 12 for 14.
I actually thought this transitioned well from the MT track... hmm. I like to throw a curve ball now and again just to cleanse the palate a bit, but maybe that wasn't the move apparently... I just love the melody here and makes me a tiny bit nostalgic for a simpler time. Someplace I could get back to if I could just Surgically Remove some of the weather damage...Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 15: Okay...
This is Fleetwood Mac, Gypsy. This song has me totally confused. I'm not a fleetwood mac hater, but I'm not a huge fan either. I guess my main gripe is that it seems so out of place with the other songs that it always throws me for a loop and sort of disrupts my flow. For that reason I'm going to give it a miss. I usually skip this song just to keep the flow going. 12 for 15.
I love this song and especially the breakdown. I miss the shins.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 16: Broken Bells, Vaporize. This song might as well be a Shins song, since I can't really hear any Danger Mouse influence anywhere. Either way, good song on a solid album. 13 for 16.
1,2,3,.. slam!- Guttermouth. There's another curveball. I am kind of rangy when it comes to music. I've been going through this Guttermouth rennaissance lately.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 17: Some song about a half breed (his words) dude who steals his parents credit cards. This song must be an earliesh 90s song. No idea who it is. Funny, although not my favorite. I'll give it a miss. 13 for 17.
Subliminal Message-- Happy Birthday. I love that line, too. A little cheesy of a song, but it's got great vocals and production values.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 18: I imagine the singer of this song to be very androgenous looking. For a while I thought it was a chick singing. Either way, I like this song. Feels like another 90s type song. My favorite line comes at the beginning: "You say you don't want to be my girl, but will just be anyway?" lol. 14 for 18.
I Can Change by LCD Soundsystem! Awesome track that I have been feeling a lot. I can't say enough about LCD soundsystem-- just awesome!Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 19: This song is great, although I think its about a minute too long. This is such a throw back to the 80s that it might as well be a Thomas Dolby song. I don't think its an old song though, the melody feels to recent. Great song. 15 for 19.
Just Like Movie Stars-- Matt Sharp. Fantastic song. For some reason I like to fade out my mixes on an easy note.Originally posted by falafel View PostTrack 20: No idea who this is. Soft guitar strumming with acoustic plucking over it. The singer is almost whispering at times. Very relaxing, and a good end to the mix. Great melody. 16 for 20.
Originally posted by falafel View PostI thought this mix, which was entitled "Surgical Removal" must surely have some kind of theme, but I could not figure it out. The Fleetwood Mac song made me certain there was a specific theme, since I couldn't understand its inclusion otherwise. Looks like I was wrong. If I had to guess at the loose theme, it would just be that these songs are just sort of lifted out of their albums' context "surgically" and cobbled together like Frankenstein.
I can't think of anything else.
My favorite track is probably Track 5. Least favorite is the Fleetwood Mac one.
I'm certain that Commando made this mix. The main clue is the Pixies track, as well as what I thought was the Pumpkins track (although that turned out to be a red herring). I also noticed that the mixmaker included several artists that I put on my first mix, which went to Commando, so I thought for sure he did his homework on what I liked. Well, turns out he didn't even remember my first mix.
haha, oh well. So overall, Commando batted .800. Pretty damn good.
Thanks Commando!
you're welcome. I thought the mix was solid too with a bit of weakness around the NIN song part where it goes a bit computer/keyboard. I DO have that mix on here somewhere of yours, but I didn't remember that you had done it... it was just fortuitous.
The mix' theme could be a bit out there and esoteric, but it was kind of a personal choice based on what I've been doing, going through, and feeling. I'm glad it came out as coherent and aesthetically enjoyable as it did.
here is the link for anyone else interested!

Hey Donut thanks for the review. I need to post my review this weekend
I'm glad you liked some of the songs
1. William Elliot Whitmore & Jenny Hoyston-You've Already Gone
I just like the lingering, haunting flow of this duet. Whitmore is an awesome neo-blues singer, Hoyston comes from punkish band Erase Erata
2.Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar-California Zephyr
I don't like Death Cab for Cutie but this open track from Gibbard's collaboration with Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo) does it for me. The album is a concept album based off of a Jack Kerouac book
3.Filthy Thieving Bastards-Gene and Jean
Out of the ashes of the great bay area punk band, Swingin Utters, came these guys. I love the bluegrass edge and straight-ahead songsmanship. These guys are musically closer to the Pogues than Flogging Molly is, imho.
4.The Hold Steady-One For the Cutters
Hold Steady is a great bar type band. No frills rock and roll with lyrical odes the 80s punk rock/hardcore scene that influenced lead singer Craig Finn's life
5.Joe McMahon-Filter
A stipped down acoustic song from one of my new favorite pop-punk bands, Smoke Or Fire
6.J Church-Sound of Mariachi Bands
Another legendary Bay Area band. There songs are predictable and musically often boring, but I love the stories they tell through their lyrics
7.Drive-by Truckers-The Fourth Night of My Drinking
CowPunk, alt-country, Southern Rock. Whatever you call these guys, they are flat out amazing
8.Greg Graffin-Don't be Afraid to Run
I don't like Bad Religion much, but I do enjoy Graffin's foray into Americana
9.Christy Moore-Back Home in Derry
The Woody Guthrie or Ireland,Christy Moore is an artist everyone should be aware of for cultural reasons. This song was penned by the iconic hunger striker Bobby Sands
10.Murder by Death-King of the Gutters, Prince of the Dogs
This is dark and brooding but almost sarcastically cheerful as well
11.Street Dogs-War After the War
Mike, the lead singer for these guys is a gulf war vet. This is his musical hat tip to those who have served and get forgotten by their nation
12.Union Song-The Nightwatchman
I don't cross picket lines. The Nightwatchman is Tom Morello from RATM fame. I agree with his sentiments here. But I can see how you found the song lecturey
13.William Elliot Whitmore-Mutiny
More Whitmore, he deserves a double-appearance on this mix
14.Deer Tick-Nebraska
Great cover by Deer Tick, got it free and legal from Daytrotter
15.Shane Macgowan and the Popes (feat. Sinead O'Conner)-Haunted
Macgowan's voice collides with Sinead's like sandpaper and silk. I thought the song was actually rich, lyrically with ones like, "You were so cool you could have put out Vietnam."
16.Justin Townes Earle-Yuma
Steve Earle's kid has talent. The song chronicling the ignoble end of a life perfectly captures all the accompanying melancholy and tragedy

Great mix. Like I said, with the exception of a couple songs, I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be looking into more of The Hold Steady, William E. Whitemore, and Justin Townes Earle.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostHey Donut thanks for the review. I need to post my review this weekend

Another Bad Creation was the title of the mix I received. I would suspect Katey if not for bad being in the title which makes me think of CMBF. So I’ll guess one of the 2
The mix was varied. I didn’t love everything but I liked some stuff—a lot.
Track 12 is my favorite. Thanks mixmaker!
Track 1: sounds like classic rockish stuff I should be familiar with but am not. This track doesn’t hook me.
Track 2: sounds eightish but I also sounds more modernly produced. I like the songs pacing, mellow and good for thinking. Not hooked yet. Not a bad song but my favorite on here
Track 3:Tom Petty. Don’t recognize it , something he put out recently. I love this song. It reminds that Petty is someone who has entire catalog I should examine. Great song the captures the longing and yearning that accompany love. Dig this lyric, “It as me and my sidekick, he was drunk and I was sick. We were caught up in a barroom fght til an Indian shot out the lights.”
Track 4: Think this a Cure song. Not bad but not the highlight. My mix-maker loves the 80s
Track 5: An REM song with which I am not familiar. I think it. I can’t the era or album. It has been awhile since I have given them a listen. But they are a quality band
Track 6
on’t know who this is, but I like it. The band reminds me a bit of Weezer of Cake, which is a good thing.
Track 7:This sounds like a song a medieval minstrel sings. Not sure of the language
Track 8:Power-poppy rock music with piano music done by Brits. Feels like I should who these guys are as well, but I do not. Not a bad selection. Not my favorite either.
Track 9:I like this number. Must be some indie band , I have not been exposed to. Reminds me a bit of Sebadoh or Pavement. The song is upbeat and peppy without being abrasive
Track 10: A definite 80s band inxs or depeche mode. Not sure which, a bit too gothy, vampirey for my tastes
Track 11:The Who- The Kids are Alright. The classic rock song has a legit place on this mix. Well done.
Track 12: WTH? In a good way! This is some French hip-hop and I really really like it. Probably my favorite track on here. Don’t know if it was added only as a joke. But I like a lot. Who is it?
Track 13: Oasis, don’t know the name of the song. But I like it, Oasis is not a bad band at all. This piece is full or optimism and energy. I definite win
Track 14:Inxs-I need you tonight. Not my favorite, sorry.
Track 15:A modern Brit rock act. Voice sounds familiar but I cant place it. One of my favorites on the mix. I skipped to it quire a bit. It has poppy-space rock kind of sound
Track 16: More Brit stuff with some choice lyrics. Love the evocative and melancholic start. Don’t know who it is.
Track 17: Another French song. I like it. Not as much as the hip-hop but I dig it a lot.

Super Review Saturday, 2 for the price of 1.
I think my mix is fantastic. It had a bunch of songs that I was familiar with, even if I didn't know the artist I had heard it and knew some of the lyrics. It has become a staple of my morning runs and I listened to it last night on my second leg of the Portland to Eugene relay while having a great moment running in the fields of Sublimity, Oregon with an amazing sunset to my right and the full moon rising to my left.
"Darkness"
1. Rolling Stones I think it is called Black. A classic rock song that is just one of those songs that everyone knows, while listening to the mix the other day ldc commented "I love this song" so win-win for me.
2. Rainbow in the Dark I have no idea the band. It feels like a 80s metal band rocking out, calling the Evil One for a visit. A great guitar solo in there.
3. I Wear My Sunglasses at Night. Like everyone else I knew the hook to this song, but I am not sure I had really ever listened to it before. It is kind of a creepy pop song, I would never have imagined.
4. I have been thinking this is Metallica, but last night as I was running I realized it isn't the song I have been thinking it was. The first couple of times I thought it was the one with the video from the mid-90s with the guy stuck in the stone room trying to get out, but last night I decided it wasn't that song. I think that song was called "Unforgiven" or something. Another great guitar song, some kind of late 80s-early 90s rock band.
5. Pearl Jam again I don't know the name of the song, but if you were alive in like 1994 you know this and about 5 other Pearl Jam songs. I always said I wasn't a Pearl Jam fan, but I like all those huge hits they had Jeremy, Even Flow, Alive, this one. Maybe I should buy the album.
6. Another one of those mega-hits from the mid-90s. One of those bands that I didn't really listen to or like. I was too busy being a bad ass listening to Naughty By Nature, Ice Cube, Onyx and Boyz II Men. What I really like about this song is that HFN Jr. and I are about 5 weeks into guitar lessons together and I think this is one that we could learn to play.
7. Black Hole Sun is the song, is the band Sonic Youth? That sounds right in my mind. I had a mission companion, Elder Cheney that rocked this song all the time. I had a gut feeling about who made my mix, this was the final straw in convincing me. I hope I'm right.
8. Smashing Pumpkins, I don't know the name of the song but it is on the double album with the mermaid or something on the cover that came out in my Senior year of HS. I had a friend that I think this was the only album he owned and I heard it over and over. Perhaps no band has grown on me more over the last 15 years or so of my life, there was a time when I would have said I hated Smashing Pumpkins. Now I would say that I am a casual fan. Two straight mixes with songs I have enjoyed.
9. I think this was like a one hit wonder band, I know the song but no idea on the title or the band. Here's to the night we know it all to well… I remember when this song was getting a ton of radio play finding it kind of annoying.
10. I don't know this song at all. I like it a lot though. Rock, but newer. I wouldn't even have a guess though. (This was one of the last songs I heard as I made it to my hand off point last night, the sun had gone all the way down and even though the full moon was bright I liked the lyric "I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer. How much further do I have to go?" This is a lock for my longer run mixes.)
11. This song is big on the radio now I think (as ldc reads over my shoulder she asks me 2 questions 1. You never listen to music on the radio so how would you know? 2. Why don't you just google these songs so you know what they are? Women, they don't understand anything). It is kind of sad, the sun will set for you. It seems like someone is about to die in that song.
12. This song is awesome it starts off like a big band, then switches over to a pop/rock type song. I don't think have ever heard it before my mix. The singer has a really cool cadence, I would be into checking out more of this band.
13. Wraps up with another one that I have no idea about, but I love the folksy feel of the singer in this one.
Oddly though all the songs definitely follow the theme of being dark, this mix kind of pumps me up a little bit. Perhaps it was just because I started running to it, had I listened to it in other circumstances maybe I would be down in the dumps right now after giving it a few listens. I love it though, I don't have much rock in my collection but this is a great mix that will get play from me. I think there is only one song that I would skip somewhat often, track 9, other than that it is a homerun. A+.
Now I believe my mixer to be 8BR for a few reasons. 1. I think he is a rock guy. 2. There are a few Northwest bands on there. 3. I think the darkness comes about because of the gloomy awful spring that we have had here, but the clouds are breaking and Mother Sun is blessing us with her rays finally.
Thanks!Get confident, stupid

Track 12 is my favorite. Thanks mixmaker!
The theme was Another Bad Creation or ABC. There were actually 26 songs which obviously didn't fit on one cd but they should all be uploaded so if you get ot the last ones hopefully you enjoy them. I picked one song that began with a letter of the alphabet, thus 26 songs. These aren't all songs that I listen to now, but they are songs that I've loved or listened to many times in the past and will continue to enjoy in the future. There is definitely an 80s influence as well as indie rock. I really didn't listen to much new music from 1997 to 2006 and indie rock got me back into new music.
Artificial Flowers by The Beautiful South - Not their best song but one that I like. TBS is one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 1: sounds like classic rockish stuff I should be familiar with but am not. This track doesn’t hook me.
Burning by The Whitest Boy Alive - I found this band listening to Pandora and really like the album this song came from. Doing the Unstuck - The Cure have something like 250 songs of which 20 are decent and 5 are exceptional. This is a great song in my book.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 4: Think this a Cure song. Not bad but not the highlight. My mix-maker loves the 80s
Drive by REM (guess my G song got left off for some reason and D got doubled up?) - This album came out my freshman year and I still listen to it regularly.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 5: An REM song with which I am not familiar. I think it. I can’t the era or album. It has been awhile since I have given them a listen. But they are a quality band
Emergency's About to End by Possum Dixon - A very good band that only put out 3 albums. I'd recommend any of their albums. Unfortunately the lead singer decided to pursue a career in magic....or something like that.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 6
on’t know who this is, but I like it. The band reminds me a bit of Weezer of Cake, which is a good thing.
Fuggi, Fuggi, Fuggi by Guiseppino - I don't know the language either but might be Italian? Catchy tune and one my kids like to dance to.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 7:This sounds like a song a medieval minstrel sings. Not sure of the language
Harold the Barrel by Genesis - Great album from when the band didn't suck (meaning Peter Gabriel days)Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 8:Power-poppy rock music with piano music done by Brits. Feels like I should who these guys are as well, but I do not. Not a bad selection. Not my favorite either.
In Her Disco by Possum Dixon - You really should check them out.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 9:I like this number. Must be some indie band , I have not been exposed to. Reminds me a bit of Sebadoh or Pavement. The song is upbeat and peppy without being abrasive
Johnson's Aeroplane by INXS - I'm was a huge INXS fan back in the Hutchence days. I still listen to them on occasion and this comes from one of their better albums.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 10: A definite 80s band inxs or depeche mode. Not sure which, a bit too gothy, vampirey for my tastes
Kids are Alright - I love the Who and it helps that my FIL hates their satanical music.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 11:The Who- The Kids are Alright. The classic rock song has a legit place on this mix. Well done.
La Tribu De Dana by Manau - yep, French hip hop. I generally don't like hip hop but this is a decent song.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 12: WTH? In a good way! This is some French hip-hop and I really really like it. Probably my favorite track on here. Don’t know if it was added only as a joke. But I like a lot. Who is it?
The Masterplan by Oasis - I'm not afraid to say I like Oasis and they have some good stuff. One of the greatest songs I've seen performed is by Noah Gallagher when he played Don't Look Back in Anger solo with his Union Jack guitar.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 13: Oasis, don’t know the name of the song. But I like it, Oasis is not a bad band at all. This piece is full or optimism and energy. I definite win
Need You Tonight - To each their own. The guitar riff in this is legendary.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 14:Inxs-I need you tonight. Not my favorite, sorry.
Our Swords by Band of Horses - I've fallen in love with this band. I discovered them while watching a video on youtube where a guy was doing bicycle stunts. I watched that video a dozen times just for the music and then bought their album.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 15:A modern Brit rock act. Voice sounds familiar but I cant place it. One of my favorites on the mix. I skipped to it quire a bit. It has poppy-space rock kind of sound
Pissing in the Wind by Badly Drawn Boy - This album and song have a special place in my heart as it got me through a dreadful busy season in early 2006.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 16: More Brit stuff with some choice lyrics. Love the evocative and melancholic start. Don’t know who it is.
Quand Tu Danses by Jean-Jacques Goldman - A very romantic song with beautiful lyrics. The album is okay and this song kind of stands alone.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrack 17: Another French song. I like it. Not as much as the hip-hop but I dig it a lot.
Track 18: Reds by Possum Dixon - Very well done song by an artist that gets 3 spots on the mix
Track 19: Stone on the Water by Badly Drawn Boy - very interesting sounds with the water and such. I love this song!
Track 20: The Trickster by Radiohead - One of the better B-sides in my opinion.
Track 21: Un Jour En France by Noir Desir - I bet you can't guess where I served my mission.
Track 22: Video by India Arie - Not my choice for a song but I was limited with the letter V so I used one of my wife's favorites. Got a good message.
Track 23: Woman in the Wall by TBS - Catchy tune on a very good album
Track 24: XYU by Smashing Pumpkins - Thankfully the pumpkins gave me a very good song to fill in the letter X.
Track 25: Your Wildest Dreams by The Moody Blues - A classic of course but it has special connotations to both my wife and me.
Track 26: Zombie by The Cranberries - I like it when chicks sing rock and roll and the voice and singing in this song are electric."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I love that video, as do my kids."Discipleship is not a spectator sport.
"Darkness"
HFN thanks for the kind words. I am glad you liked the mix. I originally thought about theming "Darkness" as a mood inducing mix, as it definitely fits how I am feeling right, now, but I decided to take a different tact and simply take every song in my collection that had "Black, Shadows, Night, Dark" in the title and culled it to the following>
Paint it Black-Rolling Stones. I absolutely love the drums in this song especially towards the end.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post1. Rolling Stones I think it is called Black. A classic rock song that is just one of those songs that everyone knows, while listening to the mix the other day ldc commented "I love this song" so win-win for me.
Rainbow in the Dark-Ronnie James Dio(May he RIP). Classic heavy metal from the early 80'sOriginally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post2. Rainbow in the Dark I have no idea the band. It feels like a 80s metal band rocking out, calling the Evil One for a visit. A great guitar solo in there.
Sunglasses at Night-Corey Hart. You are right. The lyrics are kinda creepyOriginally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post3. I Wear My Sunglasses at Night. Like everyone else I knew the hook to this song, but I am not sure I had really ever listened to it before. It is kind of a creepy pop song, I would never have imagined.
Fade to Black-Metallica. This was the song the first song that really turned me onto to Metallica. Kind of a ballad feel, but not ballad lyrics and it rocks at the end.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post4.
Black-Pearl Jam. To me the most underrated song on "Ten"Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post5.
Black Gold-Soul Asylum. I really dig the lyrics in this song...."That side's yours, this sides mine...Brother you ain't my kind..."Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post6.
Black Hole Sun-Soundgarden. Chris Cornell has the classic Grunge/Rock voice IMO. My favorite by this band followed closely by "Blow Up the Outside World"Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post7. Black Hole Sun is the song, is the band Sonic Youth? That sounds right in my mind. I had a mission companion, Elder Cheney that rocked this song all the time. I had a gut feeling about who made my mix, this was the final straw in convincing me. I hope I'm right.
Tonight, Tonight-Smashing Pumkins. Mellon Collie has had a continuous presence in my rotation for 15 years now. Not many albums can say that.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post8.
Here's to Tonight-Eve6Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post9. I think this was like a one hit wonder band, I know the song but no idea on the title or the band. Here's to the night we know it all to well… I remember when this song was getting a ton of radio play finding it kind of annoying.
Crawling in the Dark-HoobastankOriginally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post10.
Shadow of the Day-Linkin Park. I really like this song even though it has heralded the pussification of Linkin Park. Contrast this song to "Crawling" and you can see what I mean.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post11.
The Black Parade-My Chemical Romance. I am with you with how much I like how this song progresses in frenenticnessOriginally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post12. This song is awesome it starts off like a big band, then switches over to a pop/rock type song. I don't think have ever heard it before my mix. The singer has a really cool cadence, I would be into checking out more of this band.
Some Time Around Midnight-Airborne Toxic Event.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post13. Wraps up with another one that I have no idea about, but I love the folksy feel of the singer in this one."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."
"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."
