I haven't been keeping tabs on who's submitted, but I will definitely let your mixmakers know they are delinquent. Hopefully they will soon comply. In the meantime, please help yourselves to the mix I made for Falafel, a link to which I posted in the mix reveal.

    • So I have had my Mix for over a month and I am finally going to do the review.

The Theme was "School Daze and Beyond". It has a good flow to it and anyone looking for another mix to have, this is a good one to latch onto.

I am not very verbose when it comes to describing music. I either like it or not and I can't always describe why. It reminds me of trying to describe why you like your favorite color. You just like it.

Track 1: Has a techno feel to it, but not a techno song. Good lead-off for the mix.

Track 2: Graduation Day is the title, but I don't know the group. It takes me back to the emotions of HS graduation and HS in general

Track 3: Probably my least favorite song of the mix. They needed to have the chick sing the whole song. She has one of those deeper female voices that really can grab you.

Track 4: I don't know what happened here as I only got about 10 seconds of the track.

Track 5: I like this one. It reminds me of a poppier version of early Green Day.

Track 6: Nicew mellow song after the amped up pace of the last track. Good transition.

Track 7: Song title is probably "The Tragedy" Nice bluesy duet. The girls voice reminds me some of the singer in track 3, but the music is so different that I don't think they are the same.

Track 8: Upbeat song, nice drum beat. Reminds me some of Tonic

Track 9: "Make's us Human" Very melancholy tune about some of the darker side of the human mind

Track 10: Absolutely my favorite track on the mix. Very psychedelic feel. Great use of a synthesizer at the beginning. Lyrics about moving on to the real world.

Track 11: This song has obvious Beatle's influence. Talks about going back home. Everyone who attended college away from home can relate to the message here.

Track 12: This song reminds me of several songs off of my last mix....hmmmmm. Lyrics are a little dark for such a upbeat groove and rhythm. Song is about the first of the gang(think real gang) to die.

Track 13: This song may soften my ABC(anything but country) stance. This is how country is supposed to sound dammit. A little Willie, a little Waylon. Great song.

Track 14: The Time of Your Life- Green Day. This song still gives me chills when I listen to it. I can't believe that it is this old now.

Track 15: This song has a punk feel to it. Brit singer. Song is about memories, sentiment, and sex. Great combination

Track 16: This is a great party song. I could imagine this rocking the Frat party!

Track 17: This sounds like The Pet Shop Boys. Nice groove and beat.

Track 18: This one took some time to get into. It is a near to bottom as far as songs on this mix for me.

Track 19: "Teenage Anarchist" Anyone who didn't feel this way while growing up missed out. Do you remember when you were young and wanted to set the world on fire.....

Track 20: The Hand That Feeds-Nine Inch Nails. I got to know this song playing RockBand. Everything that you expect from Trent is here. Great song.

Track 21: This song has an alternative bluegrass feel to it. The fiddle in this song is definitely the highlight. I could listen to this group all day I think.

Track 22: I find myself toe-tapping to this one every time I listen to it. Great beat, cool lyrics. Nice finale to the mix.

As far as mix maker, my initial thought was MarkGrace, but he did my last one, so I don't think I would get the same person twice. I would have to go with IJR.

            • Somehow I must have screwed uploading to sendspace and the mix got out of order. I'm glad you still liked it.

Though the first two songs talk about sex the fun, upbeat, almost dorky style to both remind me of my Freshman year of HS.

              Fluorescent Adolescent- Artic Monkeys
              Chelsea Dagger- The Fratellis

The next two songs remind me of being 15-16. You feel more mature, but still realize you are a kid. Friends are still the most important part of your life, though you are becoming increasingly interested in the opposite sex.

Girls and Boys in School- Neon Trees (I debated for a long time whether to use this or 1983 from NT's. Honestly both are great songs about that time of life).
              Friends- Band of Skulls

Though my rebellious stage was little more than rolling my eyes or cranking The Scorpions Blackout album, I think every kid goes through a rebellious stage somewhere in their Junior or Senior year of HS, I think both of these songs represent that stage well.

I Was a Teenage Anarchist- Against Me!
The Hand That Feeds- Nine Inch Nails

The next trio of songs is about your Senior year when many kids feel they are old enough to be adults, but still long to be kids. American Slang is one of the songs I would take out or change if I was doing this again. It is a great song, but not really sure it has much to do with the overall theme.

              Old Enough- The Raconteurs
              American Slang- The Gaslight Anthem
Science of Fear- The Temper Trap

The next song was the obvious choice. I debated on using Kanye's graduation but didn't feel like this was a hip-hop mix.

              Graduation Day- Head Automatica

I knew the next song was a reach, but I have always liked the driving bass line and as you mentioned below I really like the girl's voice. It has absolutely nothing to do with a mission of any sort.

              The Mission - Puscifer

The next group of songs was meant to represent college life. From the adapting to campus life to meeting and falling in love with someone only to see it fall apart and thinking your life is over. Then eventually realizing she was not the end of the world, but is time to decide what to do with your life and move on.

              Campus- Vampire Weekend
              For The Girl- The Fratellis
              Careful- Guster
Tragedy- Peter Wolf and Shelby Lynne
              So Lonely- The Whigs
              Human- Civil Twilight
              Time to Pretend - MGMT
              West Coast- Coconut Records

Next the reality of adult life and seeing some of your friends go down different paths (the 2 groomsmen at my wedding have both been divorced and served time in jail) and one of my favorite lines of all time "You have never been in love, Until you've seen the sunlight thrown over smashed human bones". I've gone through a couple different Morrissey stages in my life yet somehow remained sober and not hanging from the shower rod either time.

First of the Gang to Die- Morrissey

Like you I'm not a huge country fan, but this song has a great sound, a very catchy chorus and is very well written about someone approaching and during mid-life.

              Troubadour- George Strait

In my opinion one of the great songs of the last 20 years, especially when reflecting on the past. How the mix was suppose to end

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day

Track 2: Graduation Day is the title, but I don't know the group. It takes me back to the emotions of HS graduation and HS in general Correct

Track 3: Probably my least favorite song of the mix. They needed to have the chick sing the whole song. She has one of those deeper female voices that really can grab you. The Mission, definitely a love it hate it type song

Track 4: I don't know what happened here as I only got about 10 seconds of the track. ???

Track 5: I like this one. It reminds me of a poppier version of early Green Day. For the Girl?

Track 6: Nicew mellow song after the amped up pace of the last track. Good transition. Guster I'm guessing

Track 7: Song title is probably "The Tragedy" Nice bluesy duet. The girls voice reminds me some of the singer in track 3, but the music is so different that I don't think they are the same. Tragedy

Track 8: Upbeat song, nice drum beat. Reminds me some of Tonic. Hmmm I'm guessing this is the Gaslight song.

Track 9: "Make's us Human" Very melancholy tune about some of the darker side of the human mind. Civil Twilight and yes it is meant to be melancholic, but probably didn't make much sense in the order your received them.

Track 10: Absolutely my favorite track on the mix. Very psychedelic feel. Great use of a synthesizer at the beginning. Lyrics about moving on to the real world. Time to Pretend has such great lyrics. I like Oracular and think this is by far their best song.

Track 11: This song has obvious Beatle's influence. Talks about going back home. Everyone who attended college away from home can relate to the message here. Not just heading home, but heading the right direction- The West Coast.

Track 12: This song reminds me of several songs off of my last mix....hmmmmm. Lyrics are a little dark for such a upbeat groove and rhythm. Song is about the first of the gang(think real gang) to die. The scary part is this is one of Morrissey's more upbeat tunes. Dude has/had some serious demons

Track 13: This song may soften my ABC(anything but country) stance. This is how country is supposed to sound dammit. A little Willie, a little Waylon. Great song. Troubadour

Track 14: The Time of Your Life- Green Day. This song still gives me chills when I listen to it. I can't believe that it is this old now.

Track 15: This song has a punk feel to it. Brit singer. Song is about memories, sentiment, and sex. Great combination Wait this must be the Artic Monkeys, I will have to go back and figure out what your #1 track is then.

Track 16: This is a great party song. I could imagine this rocking the Frat party! This has to be Chelsea Dagger. I have no idea why The Fratellis are not more well known, Costello Music is a fantastic album.

Track 17: This sounds like The Pet Shop Boys. Nice groove and beat. Neon Trees?

Track 18: This one took some time to get into. It is a near to bottom as far as songs on this mix for me. ???

Track 19: "Teenage Anarchist" Anyone who didn't feel this way while growing up missed out. Do you remember when you were young and wanted to set the world on fire.....

Track 20: The Hand That Feeds-Nine Inch Nails. I got to know this song playing RockBand. Everything that you expect from Trent is here. Great song.

Track 21: This song has an alternative bluegrass feel to it. The fiddle in this song is definitely the highlight. I could listen to this group all day I think. You need to download yourself some Raconteurs then. Jack White is one of the more talented American musicians of the past decade.

Track 22: I find myself toe-tapping to this one every time I listen to it. Great beat, cool lyrics. Nice finale to the mix. Vampire Weekend?

As far as mix maker, my initial thought was MarkGrace, but he did my last one, so I don't think I would get the same person twice. I would have to go with IJR.

              • Alright, sorry it's taken me forever to get to this but I am just getting into the mix. I am 100% positive it's from MarkGrace. I could tell before even listening to it as the mixtape was named Shit I like in 2010. And it's pretty much rad.

                1. LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean. Effing rad song. Ahhhhhh-ahhhh-ahhhhh present company....
                2. Don't know who this is. A little weird. Not feeling it.
                3. Same as 2 except I like it.
                4. Again, don't know who this is. But I really like it. More than track 3.
                5. I like the crescendo as this song builds from the start. Sounds added layer by layer. Very cool. Don't know who this is. I am beginning to wonder if I'll recognize anything else on this album, not that I care or it matters but I am certainly out of the loop.
                6. DNKWTI. Instrumental. Kind of jazzy. Interesting.
                7. Definitely Gorillaz. I have not heard this before.
                8. DNKWTI. Not my favorite. Took about 4 minutes to get into the song. And then the inaudible line just loops.
                9. Black Keys - Good song. I like it. I need to listen to this more.
                10. The National - I love this band so much. I am digging the new album a lot. This song sounds like it should be on Dexter or something.
                11. Joshua Ritter - I need to get this album. Maybe I'll get it before my roadtrip to Kentucky. I dig this song a lot.
                12. I feel like I should know who this is but I can't place it for some reason. It's bugging me.
                13. I don't recognize this either, but again feel like I should. I like it a lot.
                14. Upbeat and kind of poppy. Big departure from what most of the this mixtape sounds like then it starts in with Texico bitches. LOL. I like it.
                15. I want to know who this is. Of the unknowns I like this one the best thus far. It sounds kind of old, like it could have been produced 30 years ago. Has a beach, surfer vibe to it. Kind of like the old surf rock stuff.
                16. I like this one a ton. Kind of like a folk punk. I am really digging this and want to hear more. Sounds familiar but I can't place it.
                17. Wolf Parade? I haven't heard this yet. Need to check it out more.
                18. Another surf rock type tune but more electronic. Kind of a Wipeout tune to it. Interesting.
                19. Again, another one I feel I know but don't. I like it. Good ending to the mix. Starts slow and then the interesting songs begin.

Gracie, thanks man. It was a great mix. I am interested in hearing who the artists and songs were of this stuff. I am astounded at how you can stay on top of music so much. I have a lot of catching up to do.

                • I really enjoyed it. i need to go back and redownload it because I didn't get all the tracks for some reason. There is definitely some stuff I want to hear more off

The theme was Another Bad Creation or ABC. There were actually 26 songs which obviously didn't fit on one cd but they should all be uploaded so if you get ot the last ones hopefully you enjoy them. I picked one song that began with a letter of the alphabet, thus 26 songs. These aren't all songs that I listen to now, but they are songs that I've loved or listened to many times in the past and will continue to enjoy in the future. There is definitely an 80s influence as well as indie rock. I really didn't listen to much new music from 1997 to 2006 and indie rock got me back into new music.

Artificial Flowers by The Beautiful South - Not their best song but one that I like. TBS is one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

Burning by The Whitest Boy Alive - I found this band listening to Pandora and really like the album this song came from. They do sound 80ish and you can tell I grew up mostly listening to 80s music.

Crawling Back to You - A deep track from Wildflowers album. Great lyrics and cool melody.

Doing the Unstuck - The Cure have something like 250 songs of which 20 are decent and 5 are exceptional. This is a great song in my book.

Drive by REM (guess my G song got left off for some reason and D got doubled up?) - This album came out my freshman year and I still listen to it regularly.

Emergency's About to End by Possum Dixon - A very good band that only put out 3 albums. I'd recommend any of their albums. Unfortunately the lead singer decided to pursue a career in magic....or something like that.

Fuggi, Fuggi, Fuggi by Guiseppino - I don't know the language either but might be Italian? Catchy tune and one my kids like to dance to.

Harold the Barrel by Genesis - Great album from when the band didn't suck (meaning Peter Gabriel days)

In Her Disco by Possum Dixon - You really should check them out.

Johnson's Aeroplane by INXS - I'm was a huge INXS fan back in the Hutchence days. I still listen to them on occasion and this comes from one of their better albums.

Kids are Alright - I love the Who and it helps that my FIL hates their satanical music.

La Tribu De Dana by Manau - yep, French hip hop. I generally don't like hip hop but this is a decent song.

The Masterplan by Oasis - I'm not afraid to say I like Oasis and they have some good stuff. One of the greatest songs I've seen performed is by Noah Gallagher when he played Don't Look Back in Anger solo with his Union Jack guitar.

Need You Tonight - To each their own. The guitar riff in this is legendary.

Our Swords by Band of Horses - I've fallen in love with this band. I discovered them while watching a video on youtube where a guy was doing bicycle stunts. I watched that video a dozen times just for the music and then bought their album.

Pissing in the Wind by Badly Drawn Boy - This album and song have a special place in my heart as it got me through a dreadful busy season in early 2006.

Quand Tu Danses by Jean-Jacques Goldman - A very romantic song with beautiful lyrics. The album is okay and this song kind of stands alone.

Track 18: Reds by Possum Dixon - Very well done song by an artist that gets 3 spots on the mix

Track 19: Stone on the Water by Badly Drawn Boy - very interesting sounds with the water and such. I love this song!

Track 20: The Trickster by Radiohead - One of the better B-sides in my opinion.

Track 21: Un Jour En France by Noir Desir - I bet you can't guess where I served my mission.

Track 22: Video by India Arie - Not my choice for a song but I was limited with the letter V so I used one of my wife's favorites. Got a good message.

Track 23: Woman in the Wall by TBS - Catchy tune on a very good album

Track 24: XYU by Smashing Pumpkins - Thankfully the pumpkins gave me a very good song to fill in the letter X.

Track 25: Your Wildest Dreams by The Moody Blues - A classic of course but it has special connotations to both my wife and me.

Track 26: Zombie by The Cranberries - I like it when chicks sing rock and roll and the voice and singing in this song are electric.

I thought you were never going to review it! I'll put down the track list when I get the chance.

So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Do not know who this is.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Do not know who this is. I had a feeling I'd be writing that out a lot.

                        • The Mix I received entitled "Take Time" and each track has title as well. Here goes.

                          1. Take Time. This is probably the real title of this song. No clue on the band, but I really liked it. It is a combination of rhythm established by a variety of sample sounds which is eventually overlaid with harmonic vocals, sparse guitar, and samples of the spoken word reminding us to "take time" and "that which is now has already been." It took a listen or two, but ultimately I dig it.

                          2. For Goodbyes. Not familiar with this. Sort of blues rock. "This is the longest goodbye"...can't make out too many other lyrics. But this song is mellow with a nice steady beat. I like it.

                          3. To meet someone new. This is much more mellow, but I really like the vocals here. Also blues/rock/folk. Nice LDS reference. :-) Like this one too. Again, don't know this artist.

                          4. To imagine. Midlake! Roscoe! I'm definitely down with Midlake. I like the eclectic lyrics and again, dig that vocal harmony. Good mix so far.

                          5. For something. Bluesy. This is a duet and I recognize one of the voices. Again, blues/rock which is methodical, mellow, with just enough crunch on the guitar and bluesy vocals. "I have often said, I would like to be dead in, in a shark's mouth." Fits with the rest, not my fav but not bad.

                          6. For yourself. Rhythmic and Latin beat. "And I will be alone again tonight my dear." I like the sound but nothing grabs me.

                          7. To stand up. This sounds a lot like Beck, but isn't Beck. Electronic beat with acoustic guitar. Not bad.

                          8. For those who've passed. Singer has a Ben Folds-y voice and lyrics, but more rock than Folds. This is a song about loss (duh). Night windows. I liked this one.

                          9. But don't waste it. My Morning Jacket, Golden. I like this track a lot. This is a sound that Fleet Foxes borrowed heavily from. (Yes Mark, I know that isn't an original thought).

                          10. To be you. Here we have some Brit rock/pop. I'm guessing the track is entitled "She Said." This sounds like it is from the era that the Gallagher brothers dominated. Cool.

                          11. But not too long. Rilo Kiley. With Outstretched Arms. I had forgotten this track but really love it.

                          12. To judge for yourself. Ha! A fellow Eames Era fan. When you were a millionaire. Good track. Wish these guys had stayed together.

                          13. To move on. Not familiar with this songstress, but I like her. Good pop song. A song about, well, moving on. "I have nothing more to say to you so please don't ever ask."

                          14. For this song. Bluesy, funky. Reminds me of American Woman. Mostly instrumental. This song gives me Elvis lip. Stoner rock.

                          15. For fun. Is the title ironic? This is a very upbeat song with pretty dark lyrics about a really bad marriage. I'm not a fan of this singing style (rapid fire lyrics) but I like the song.

Overall a good mix. I will be curious to know who 1, 3 and 13 are. Thanks for the mix oh mix maker.

I just downloaded from sendspace and it does appear to download somewhat randomly. However, the tracks appear to be numbered correctly. If you are able to see the track numbers listen to #22 if it is Green Day then just place the rest in sequential order and my list above should be correct. If not I will just upload the songs with full titles and send it to you that way.

I will try it tomorrow. Thanks for the Mix AV.
