It's funny that a discussion about what is at least arguably the best movie of 2009 now centers on whether an actor's gum chewing is audible.Originally posted by Green Lantern View PostThis is the weirdest threadjack I've seen in a while.
mp, go see or rent the movie. Pearce's masticatory habits will not offend, or your money back (honest). But since the scene precedes his walking toward a bomb that he must defuse, you can always hope that he fails.
There are many things in the movie far more discomfiting and disturbing that the sound of chewing. It's a very good film.

I never said that the viewing of him chewing was offensive to me, I said the sound was offensive. You can separate out the two.Originally posted by woot View PostIn English, "seeing a movie" refers to the experience of both watching the moving pictures and listening to the soundtrack.
I've added it to the Netflix cue.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

You cant hear the little chew noises or the gum pops. You can hear that his speaking cadence changes with each chew of the gum, which is why I wondered if it disguised his australian accent.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostNo I asked if you can hear him chew, not if you can see it.
How about chew? Are you grossed out when you see people spit out tobacky? Or is it just the noise?
(I am always curious about people's little foibles. I have some of my own.)

It is the sound. I guess I realize that this is probably weird and obsessive, but everyone has some weird and obsessive things. Mine are chewing and expiration dates. It is kind of a family thing too because all of my brothers cannot stand the sound of chewing and at least 2 of them also won't anything past an expiration date.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostYou cant hear the little chew noises or the gum pops. My grandpa lived with our family off and on when I was growing up. He would eat the same thing every morning, bran flakes. The problem was that he would put his dentures in until after breakfast. He would fill up the entire bowl with milk and poor a few flakes in. He would then proceed to slurp the cereal and make loud chomping noises. I had a hard time even being on the same floor as the kitchen when he was eating breakfast. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I ended up being a lone man last night and saw this movie. (I could never drag my wife to see such a flick.) I left feeling drained and depressed, and as usual admiring the courage of soldiers in wartime. I understand the movie is not completely realistic but you have to sacrifice some realism to make a good movie. (A cowboy like James would have been disciplined, for example. And when a robot breaks down in reality, they send a back-up robot in to fix the first one or do something else.)
But it is a really fine piece of work. I liked the way the movie did not preach about the war, either for or against, and how the characters developed and I started to care about them as people. I'm not sure I'll ever want to see this one again, though. Too hard to watch.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Interesting. I love INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS but the cast is so large and sprawling that I didn't feel I got to know anyone as deeply as Jeremy Renner in HURT LOCKER.Originally posted by Viking View Postamazing flick. i liked inglourious basterds better due to the depth of each principal character portrayed (Waltz was amazing). Nonetheless, this is a superb movie.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

But once you've watched it, what will you wait in agony for next? I'm going to try to find something on Netflix with a really long wait time and recommend it to you as the best movie ever.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostIt finally shipped! After all the recommnedations for It Might Get Loud, I added the blu-ray disc to my queue (it said no wait, vs. a short wait for DVD). As soon as I added it, its been a short wait for over a week!Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostIt finally shipped! Should be here tomorrow.
