It is well deserving of any nominations/awards it gets. I really, really liked this movie.

It was painful for me to watch. It doesn't let up on the suspense. No moments of levity, no brotherhood-sharing scenes. Even the off-duty social interaction is charged with tenseness.

It reminded me of The Departed that way.

I wonder if the director had Guy Pearce chewing gum throughout his role to disguise his broad aussie accent.

I've always thought Guy Pearce does a pretty solid American accent. I had no idea he was Australian until I saw him on a talk show a couple years after I saw L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

I didn't even know Pearce was in it. I don't know why he would need to cover up his accent, he's sounded like an American before just fine.

The only Redbox I know of is in Farmington, Utah. That's either a 2 hour flight or 12 hour drive. Either way it's farther than I want to go to get a movie. I'll probably just hit the local Blockbuster.

HURT LOCKER is my pick for the best movie of the year. Great action. Great direction. Great acting (which you don't always expect out of an action flick.) Some of the set pieces were almost unbearably suspenseful, as Katy mentioned. It's amazing to me that this is a movie I have to convince people to go see, while all the marketing dollars ensure that the general public thinks of AVATAR and TRANSFORMERS 2 as the true "must see" event movies.

Hey MarkGrace, what ZIP are you in, if you don't mind my asking? I confess, Redbox may not be the most convenient solution for you.

At the risk of teasing MarkGrace even more about this movie he has yet to see, and also showing my sexism, I was very surprised to see the movie is directed (and produced I think) by a woman. I associate women directors with light RomCom. Certainly not the unbearable suspense of Hurt Locker.

Also, David Morse is in the film, I love his work. Such a compassionate character in the Green Mile, such an ass on House, MD.

                        Slight spoiler:
                        Spoiler for unconventional casting:
I thought it was unconventional that the big stars had the smallest roles.

Um...it was directed by Kathryn Bigelow! I thought she made it clear by doing Point Break that rom-coms aren't her thing? Obviously with that flick on her resume THL was going to be brilliant.

Agreed on the spoiler and agreed on the awesomeness of David Morse. I remember seeing him in PROOF OF LIFE as Meg Ryan's kidnapped husband and coming out wishing they had made the entire movie about him rather than Ryan and Russell Crowe's rescue team.

As for Bigelow, she is certainly a "tough guy" director. She made POINT BREAK and NEAR DARK for heaven's sake.
