    • My brother had a pirated copy of this game and I started playing it in my 5th grade classroom during our allotted "computer time." The game was already a few years old at that point. Instead of Oregon Trail or Number Munchers I put in a copy of this baby. My teacher was unaware of what was going on (somehow -- maybe she thought I was playing the sequel to Oregon Trail??) and half the class was watching me kick the condor's ass.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

      • Please help me remember the keyboard controls:

QAZ, WSX.........one was high/medium/low punch and one was high/medium/low kick. Which was which? I want to say that QAZ was to kick.

Also, B was to block. Spacebar was to toggle between standing and battle stance.

Left and right arrows to advance or retreat.

Are you buying the day 1 DLC? I haven't gotten into ME and maybe it won't be a big deal but from what I understand there are some pretty significant plot elements in the DLC. I don't mind DLC but DLC at launch that isn't vanity items rub me the wrong way.

It's a terrible business practice. This kind of stuff is unacceptable. Day 1 PAID DLC is just EA showing they only see their fans as dollar signs.

I'm pissed off about it. It is clearly a way to raise the price of the game $10 without actually raising the price. I'm not pissed off enough about it to not play the game though. It is really unfortunate that EA bought Bioware.

                      • Why are you all so upset about DLC? It is common for several post-milestone content updates to be ready at launch. Publishers usually want an entire calendar of post-content available to them by launch so that they can request changes, plan advertising strategies, etc. It is not common to put the DLC on sale the exact same day but why get upset about it? Your favorite game has even more content and you are pissed off about it?

If it bothers you so much don't buy it and read the plot developments on the wiki.

I think it is pretty simple. People don't like to feel like they're buying an incomplete game for full price.

Why do you think it is incomplete? You realize that there is even more DLC for ME3 already completed, just not yet for sale?

If they waited 8 weeks and then sold it, would you feel like the initial game was complete? I don't get it.

I understand this practice but the ME3 DLC is different. Unlike other games' DLC, this is kind of a sham. I think it boils down to the fact that this particular DLC has plot points that will take away from the main story if you don't get it. So it's like a game cutting out the middle part of the story and squeezing ten bucks out of you. It doesn't add to the main game as DLC should, it actually subtracts from the finished product. That's why people are so up in arms about it.

The overarching story across the series is absolutely superb, but the combat and mechanics in the first game are sub par. They tighten things greatly in the second game to make the combat very enjoyable. You need to play the first game though to get all of the context and backstory of the universe, your character, the interspecies diplomacy dynamic, all very important things to understand to get the full experience.

I'm with Funk, ME2 is my favorite video game of all time. I have a feeling it will be supplanted next month though.

They may not be up to the standards of ME2, but I don't think they are sub par. I would still consider them above average. ME1 though is essential to play, because the bulk of the actual story is in ME1 not in ME2. Someone else said it best, ME2 is like one giant side quest. The story and mythology is a huge part of what makes ME great and that is almost exclusively in ME1.

I have high hopes for ME3. If they just refine the combat and close out the story in a satisfying way, I'll be happy with the game.
I actually started playing through ME1 last week--I bought both 1 and 2 a few months ago on Steam for some ridiculously low price. The backstory and history are awesome.
