Really? That's too bad 'cause there's this other movie called COYOTE UGLY about a struggling young songwriter who learns to overcome her stage fright by dancing like a stripper in a crowded bar that is completely AWESOME. Seriously, it's like the CITIZEN KANE of skanky barmaid movies.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

My kids love the Red Balloon. we watch it all the time. Of course I love it too because I love France and am a socialist pig.

        • The Bridge - A documentary that was filmed over the course of 2004. The director had multiple cameras focused on the Golden Gate Bridge, where more people decide to kill themselves each than anywhere else in the world. He captured 19 of the 24 suicides that year and interviews the victims friends and family and also people who watched as it happened and one guy who actually stopped a girl from jumping. He also interviews one person that attempted suicide but lived.

A very difficult film to watch but I thought it was extremely well done. Watching these people pace the bridge, contemplate and then, sort of anticlimactically, taking their lives in split seconds was just very sad. There is certainly a romanticized draw to the bridge to those that are prepared to take their life.

The interviews with the living varied so much as to their approaches leading up to the fateful day. This was the most interesting to me.

I can't say I enjoyed the film, or that I would watch it again. But I would watch it the first time, again. If that makes sense.

I caught this on IFC about a year ago. I echo your sentiments almost completely.

            • Shutter Island.

I enjoyed the experience but it didn't really stick with me much. A movie that thoroughly accomplished the lasting disturbing-mental-institution-feeling that I felt Shutter Island was trying to accomplish was highly underrated Changeling (2008 Clint Eastwood).

I watched this on Hulu a few months back. I had a tough time with it. But my thoughts on it fall in line with yours. This movie certainly isn't for everyone.

                • Watched the Road. I really liked it. I had pretty low expectations and was really worried about Charlize Theron's role as mom and how they'd bring her into the story. I was also worried they'd explain away what happened to thrust the world into its post-apocalyptic state. It's been a few years since I read the book so it was interesting how certain scenes in the movie created some unique suspense for me awaiting what I knew would come. Gidget had never read the book so the movie was really heavy for her and I could tell she was affected greatly. I must admit that I was too. I think this in part was because when I read the book I had just become a dad of an 18 month old child and was still settling into that role. My perspective has been reshaped and grown tremendously since then.

No. That was a smack for thinking that would be a good movie to watch.

Tough to argue that. Kurt Russel should have retired after that one.
