  • The Batman was so good. I'm proud of D.C. for finding a tone and sticking to it rather than trying to stumble through a poor aping of Marvel movies. I don't know if there will be a sequel or not, and honestly it doesn't matter bc it stands on its own. It reminded me of a really dark Batman graphic novel that I picked up and finished in one sitting without having to read anything before, no discernible allusions to other comics I was supposed to have read to get me caught up. Nothing. Just a long ass, dark, violent, Batman flick.

    • Last night, I watched "A River Runs Through It" for the first time. I knew that Brad Pitt was in the movie but I didn't know it featured Tom Skerritt as his father. I was also surprised to see a young Joseph Gordon-Leavitt playing the part of young Norman.

As I have mentioned in other places on this interwebs, I'm not much of a fisherman, but I still enjoyed the movie.

I read that book a long time ago. I liked both the book and the movie. Makes you want to move to Montana.

I fell asleep during it. Too drawn out. But the performances were solid. I'm still skeptical that the penguin was actually Colin Ferrell.

            Spoiler for Plot:
I guess if you don't mind dying young, then moving to Montana might make sense.

I've probably watched that move 20+ times. Its just one that has stuck with me. I read the book a few years ago and enjoyed it.

I have often read one of my kids' essay assignments and marked it up and then told them to do it again, "half as long."

After the the child complied, did you let the children go out in the country and through the town unaccompanied?

Only if they took their younger sibling.

the first time I saw it was as a newly married couple with our friends. They gushed over it, while we thought it was pretty lame. 28 years later, I’ve completely changed my tune. Beautiful film. I should read the book.

I had no idea he was even in the movie-- I was confused to see his name in the credits. Why all that makeup when they could have just hired Richard Kind?

I don't understand the movie being long as a complaint. I wish it was longer, then again I love Batman.

This Batman is in a category of it's own. It's the first Batman movie that really conveys the detective part of being Batman. Also, they did a great job of showing Bruce Wayne's dependence on being the Batman. It seemed to me that this Batman was more comfortable being Batman than being Bruce Wayne.

I'd say more, but don't want to give spoilers, or reveal the complete picture of my nerdiness, the total depth of which no instrument can measure.

I was just an 11-year-old kid when Tim Burton's epic Batman came out and that movie was my life. Loved it. I like Batman just fine but I'm not a superfan or anything, and I certainly had no expectations for this one since they came out w some cheesy Batmans in the 90s that just plain weren't that exciting. However, regarding this one, I have heard almost no valid criticisms of the movie-- the things I've heard people say are critiques in preference of style or motif, but nothing really about the acting or writing. "Why does Bruce Wayne look emo?" Yes- heaven forbid we have gothic aesthetic in a dark crime comic book movie that takes place in a fictional dystopian metropolis called Gotham City. The cinematography and costumes look incredible. Paul Dano was incredible. Zoe Kravitz was incredible. I'm not saying it was the best movie in the world or anything, but it was a lot of fun and not a whole lot to complain about, to say the least.

Around 1990, my sister and her family came to visit from Arizona for the holidays. Her oldest was around 5 years old. We were going to turn on a Disney movie for her. We selected Bambi and, while taking the VHS cassette to the VCR, asked her if it was OK. She said, "No - Bambi is scary!".

When we asked her what she would prefer, she said, "Batman!"
