I liked it more than I didn't. And like you my wife would have hated it.Originally posted by SteelBlue View Post

Agreed. The movie was a little uneven in parts but he was excellent.Originally posted by falafel View PostThe Menu. Excellent dark comedy/thriller. I actually liked it a lot as well. Jon Hamm is no Chevy Chase, but the character should live on in film.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostConfess, Fletch
I liked it. Too bad it bombed. I think they would be better off making the Fletch book series into a limited run series.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Babylon. A mess. Sometimes beautiful, funny, and poignant. But still a mess. And an hour too long. Did Chazelle fire his editor?

Agreed. Interesting and fun at times to watch, but too long and waaay over the top at times, which was the overwrought point.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostBabylon. A mess. Sometimes beautiful, funny, and poignant. But still a mess. And an hour too long. Did Chazelle fire his editor?

Just a couple of days ago, I would not have thought I'd ever see, much less really enjoy, M3gan, but due to a number of events, I did both for lunch today. It's a PG-13 horror movie which should tell you that there isn't an excess of violence or blood (although there are certainly both). Nothing really new here (it's a combination of 2001: A Space Odyssey's HAL, Chucky (which I've never seen), and George Costanza's mother doll). No new themes (the essence of real parenting, Silicon Valley greed, AI will eventually kill us all, etc.), but it's still very entertaining, with some LOL moments. There were several great moments, including the final ten seconds, a subtle but effective coda. I went alone, but it still gets two thumbs up.

“A Man Called Otto”. Pretty sacchariney, but an interesting enough story that I didn’t mind. Hanks does his usual. Mrs. NWC said it tracked well enough with the book. Solid B.
In completely unrelated news, I’ve found a new way to suppress tears in a movie. Just look away from the screen and stare at the glowing exit sign until the offending scene is done."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Does the plot track with the book or does the mood track with the book? Looking at the previews, Tom Hanks comes off as a loveable crank, but in the book and original film Ove comes off as a damaged bastard.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post“A Man Called Otto”. I found it less dark than the Swedish version- Ove. While there are some funny things in Ove, seems like there are more wisecracks and silly personalities in Otto. Otto also doesn't go into the relationship with his dad like Ove did.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View Post

Watched Raiders of the Lost Ark with my 14-year-old daughter last night. She enjoyed it, but did call out what she described as racism because of the depiction of the South American tribes at the beginning and the Egyptians in Cairo and at the dig sites."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

In the very good Smartless podcast with Spielberg, he said they were preparing for what was going to be a very complicated and lengthy scene where Indiana faces off with the huge swordsman. Lots of questions/issues were being discussed, and then Harrison Ford asked, “Why don’t I just shoot him?” Thus the best scene in the movie came to be.Originally posted by Pelado View PostWatched Raiders of the Lost Ark with my 14-year-old daughter last night. You forgot to add that Ford was feeling sick that day from eating some bad lamb the night before and told Spielberg he could probably only give him one hour before returning to his hotel. Thus the suggestion to just shoot him instead of a long and drawn out sword fight.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post
