The "last movie I saw" thread

"Bridge of Spies" was one of the better movies we've seen in a long while. The character development of the protagonist, the depiction of the times, the concerns of the attorney as well as what the social sentiments were at the time seemed very authentic. Some of the little details such as climbing over the walls made it tighter than I would have expected.

I'm not a huge movie watcher, but saw this on TV the other day and gave it a try. I really enjoyed it.

Not sure if I already commented on it, but I enjoyed Bridge of Spies as well. Interesting to see all the interaction between the various agencies/countries trying to accomplish their own diverse goals.

When we visited Berlin recently, we tried to trace some of the spots identified in the movie. It was kinda eerie to walk and travel within former East Berlin, although admittedly much less so than it would have been in 1990.

Coming from two Utes, I can understand why you are in bed together.

I enjoyed it as much as one can enjoy a comic book made movie, especially since my wife went and enjoyed herself. I would rate it about a 7.

I generally agree with you. But I really liked (and still enjoy) the last two Christopher Nolan Batman movies.

mrs smr convinced me to see wonder woman. on a scale from 1 -10, I've decided superhero movies have a ceiling of about a 3.5. I'd give ww a solid 2.5. incredibly dumb (like all superhero movies) and probably not worth the $2 or whatever i paid at the dollar theater, but it entertained me sufficiently and i enjoy hanging with the mrs, so I'd call it a success.

So all things equal you give this movie a 7? That's about the consensus.

In general I think the superhero movies are pretty bad. I thought WW was pretty good until it turned into the final big confrontation. Up til then I liked it quite a bit. As far as action type movies go, it wasn't bad. Much more watchable, IMO, than any of the fast and furious franchise, for example (although to be honest, I have never made it through a FandF movie).

In general I think the superhero movies are pretty bad. I thought WW was pretty good until it turned into the final big confrontation. Up til then I liked it quite a bit. You guys are all too high brow, and miss the point of various genres.

Comic book movies are a lighter version of pure violence to let it all out type of movie. Naturally they try to tap into the dark doubts of the would be hero or heroine, but the movies are not supposed to be deep philosophical works of art.

They are the modern version of the spaghetti western, just bad guys, more bad guys, and few good guys shooting it up. This is not to say they should replace works of art or other genres, but if you take them for what they are supposed, escapism with no point other than to watch shit be blown up, then they can be worth the price of popcorn and some soda.

We have more narrow versions of the genre in terms of the "fight movie" or the sports hero who is down and out. The plots are very similar to that genre.

we watched interstellar again last week (after originally seeing it in theaters). it's underappreciated and going to be recognized as a classic

They are also modern versions of mythology. And could be so much more than just CGI, bad acting and bad dialogue porn.
I get the various genres, and these are just money making formulas that are safe and easy to make. Like you say, they are made because people go to them.
I just wish every once in a while something meaningful would emerge. Mythology is too important for it not be. How long has it been since Dark Knight?
