The one final thing I’ll mention is that I had heard some cool things about Eddie Vedder before, but he comes across as the coolest rockstar in the world in the movie and documentary. Seemed like a good kid at the time and a great guy in general.
Of course he is cool. He is a huge Cubs fan.

    • Marty Supreme. Pretty good, not great. Chalamet has a great performance, and most other acting is solid. O'Leary is perfectly typecast. The plot is kind of scattershot, but if you're a table tennis fan you'll enjoy some great shots and pretend you could make some of them. The 80's themed soundtrack is weird in a 50's era movie. Solid B.

      • We should have a CS viewing party of the new Melania film. I’m picturing something like Mystery Science Theater 3000. Might be the one movie that NWC hopes for no sex scenes or nudity.

They probably stole that from someone, but that is a great line.

But picture in your mind who she would be having sex with.

                  • Project Hail Mary....was phenomenal as a movie. Score is amazing, cinematography was outstanding. I thought Ryan Gosling was great.

                    Movie is a 10 out of 10.

Now...if you love the book, which I do...top 3 of all time for me, you may not be happy with the movie and may go with something like 8/10.

If you go in and understand that with a run time of 2h38m they had to put a lot of stuff in there, but they can't put everything in there...you will enjoy it.

If you are upset that they left too much out, which they did, you are going to set yourself up for disappointment.

The book is always better than the movie (PHM, Jurassic Park, The Hunt for the Red October), this is always the case. But if you look at this movie as an adaptation of the book, you can really enjoy it.

I was blown away by the visuals. My wife cried during the movie, and she is not a crier. I'm going to go again next week and take TK1. She has never read the book. I want to see how she feels about the movie as someone that knows nothing about the movie.

                    • PHM was indeed a very entertaining movie. I'd probably give it a 9, and it was one of the best book adaptations I've seen in theaters. Gosling's great. We saw it last Monday and the audience applauded at the end.

I'd love to see it in IMAX. Visually one of the more impressive movies that I have seen. The fact that they didn't green screen any of the sets is absolutely crazy to me.

                        • Saw this in IMAX this afternoon. Agree with all the recommendations, and thanks for them. I had never read the book (never read The Martian either) so I have no idea how close to the book this was. I would have liked to have seen Rocky's mate, though. That would have been cool.

There are a couple of places in the movie where the physics or the science don't make sense, but it was still a very entertaining watch.

                          • I have been contemplating lately whether it's better to read the book first then seeing the movie, or vice versa..

In the past, I have thought reading the book first was better, But then I am always very or somewhat disappointed with the movie. Even when it's well done like Project Hail Mary. I find myself wondering about how the screenplay or effects are going to handle things, or noticing things that are left out instead of just enjoying the movie.

I recently started reading Mystic River, which I have seen the movie of a few times. I am really enjoying the book, and the additional insight and explanation of things I didn't fully understand in the movie. It's interesting to hear character's inner monologue, or understand their motives, additional events that get left out, etc. My next Dennis Lehane book is Gone Baby Gone, which I have not seen yet. I think i will watch the movie first this time.

We really enjoyed it also. Solid B plus. I appreciated the flashbacks; I think it would have felt too long if it was just a linear story.

I'm not sure about the physics, but there definitely is fake biology going on. There is no color in phase contrast microscopy! Any time he was looking at a microscope it should have just been unicolor textures, much like Rocky sees the world. Major fail!

                              • Just got out of watching PHM and loved every minute of it. Gosling is awesome in this. Jason Bateman (Black Rabbit another great one with Jim)is one of my favs and Gosling is climbing the charts and very diversified.

                                Excellent movie!!
