Well let's not start talking cray cray.
        • Jaws--June, 1975
        • Raiders of the Lost Ark--June, 1981
        • E.T.--June, 1982
        • Terminator 2--July, 1991
        • The Dark Knight--July 2008
        • Ghostbusters--June, 1984

But yes, the majority of the summer blockbusters are usually not great.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Sure, there are a few exceptions over the years. But most of it is CGI-laden, populist crap.

            (btw, ET totally sucked)

Simple misunderstanding. I was referring to the Steven Spielberg classic that is one of the greatest movies ever made and that I watch all the time with my kids and that makes me cry every single time.

                • This weekend we saw The Way, Way Back and enjoyed it quite a bit. Great cast and a solid coming-of-age story.

Also, the midnight movie at the Tower Theatre this weekend was The Terminator, so I had to go see that too because it's awesome:

                  I love that movie.

                      Pretty good movie.

Chemistry between Denzel and Wahlburg was really really good.

ET should be watched with kids. IMO, the film doesn't age very well for adults only but it's a timeless movie when children are part of the experience. I still consider ET a classic for that reason - it's one of the best kids' movie ever made.

While I agree with the latter part of your statement, I must respectfully disagree with the first part. I think E.T. has aged wonderfully. It is sentimental, but that sentimentality is earned and it has a bittersweetness to it (mainly regarding the kids' absent father and their struggling mother) that was completely lost on me until I watched it as an adult. I think it stands as Spielberg's greatest work (and this is coming from a guy who would probably name Raiders of the Lost Ark as his favorite film.)

Good point. It could just be personal. For some reason, I can only enjoy watching ET (and the original Star Wars triology) with kids. On the other hand, I continue to enjoy Raiders of the Lost Ark (and The Last Crusade). Perhaps watching ET with kids just became part of my viewing experience and now I can't enjoy it sans kids.
